On the other hand though my nephew used to pay Jobobo The Hobo (thats what they called him) a dollar every time he would take out their garbage.
Some of those guys rake it in. I know ages ago, a news crew followed a guy & his wife (i think) home to a decent suburban house out towards Katy....it was a long time ago, but still...
Dude my aunts ex husband is a hobo and sits on a corner near 290 and the beltway, or at least he use to. But during the holiday season he use to rake in like 300 a day, no joke. but he had a dog so people were probably givin him money to feed the dog lol..

While eating dinner with my friend and his parents one night, we were approached by a hobo as we entered the restaurant asking for money claiming he was hungry. On the way out, my friend's mom filled her purse with dinner rolls and offered them to the hobo. the hobo, declined the rolls saying "uhhhh, never mind".
There was a documentary a while back about a guy that used to "work as a homeless". They guy had left his bear and hair grow to apparent in worse situation. However every day he would get dressed in crappy ripped clothes and would leave his very BIG house in his BENZ and park like 5 blocks away where he would then walk to his "block corner" to ask for money. He said something like "I get early and work hard like the rest of the people" ; "I'm no different that the sales rep that lies to you and decives you to get money".
