Default Building a website.....

Not an LS1 or even a car question but this site has some pretty smart folks on here.....could someone steer me/advise best direction to go to build a pretty simple (I think) website..I do so some work with kids and have a non profit and would like to have a site with a lot of similarities to this site actually. Message boards mainly, with registered members and such. Any help would be appreciated...

And to you smart asses: yes I know about Google, thanks. Here's one for ya as well: For Sale-Slightly used U.S Quarters (picture below)

Asking 40 cents obo each.

Asking .40 cents or best offer each.
You're selling a quarter for .40 of a cent?

With all due respect Juan, that's like asking someone what is the best way to build a car. It really just depends on your end goals. If it's just to showcase some content and some images, and you have four or five webpages total, you could pick up an HTML for beginners book and start there. A lot of them are easy to follow now, and you could definitely make a simple website after reading it.

Another route you could go if you'll be updating content a lot would be something like Joomla, which is set up for people who aren't code-savvy. It's an easy to use content management system that has a lot templatized. It's also free (open-source). Just ask your hosting company to help you install it and you should be good to go.

Hope this helps, let me know if you have any questions too.

Hi Juan,

I currently run 2 gaming sites off of free "phpbb3" boards. I pay about 6$ a month for webhosting through godaddy.com and 6$ a year per domain. It's a very cheap way of hosting a website. There's plenty of tutorials on phpbb.com on how to install the boards once you have your domain name / webhosting package ready to go. Depending on the amount of traffic you expect, webhosting may cost more. I find the 6$ a month package is WAY more than I need. It offers 150GB data storage, 1500GB monthly transfer, 500 emails and 25 mysql databases. Feel free to PM with anymore questions, I don't mind helping when I have the time.

what hoff said...he knows his ****.
Also try templatemonster.com
buncha ready to go sites with different goals.
You asked a pretty general question about a very spacific topic.
like demonpixl said...if its just a few images and text you could easily pick up a beginners guide. hell im sure there is a youtube howto lol
if your looking to build a forum site, vbulletin makes it really easy.
Im currently in the process of building 2 forums myself (non car related )

Hoff's answer is good.

You need to OWN your domain name (Its cheap...Ex. companyname.com)
Rent a server from a hosting company, they will offer packages with high/low performing servers, as well as bandwidth/storage packages. You dont need anything that would require a large amount of bandwidth/storage, or require alot of resources by the server itself, so you probably wont have to pay more than...$150/yr after its setup if i had to guess

Feel free to PM also

I have used Front Page in the past which seemd to be easy, but now they have off the shelf packages at Best Buy, etc that have all you need in them to plug and play...about $150 for a good one. then just need bandwidth online and a name which can be purchased online too.
