Had a few of both. If you are spending the exact same amount, the GMC is a nicer and better built truck. Dodge Rams are good cheap trucks though, you usually get a nicer overall truck for much less money with the Dodge. Those new body Rams look much improved inside/out vs the previous body however.

Didn't have time to stop by the Dodge dealer, but did test drive a Sierra and briefly drove a Silverado Z71 4x4. The Sierra was an all terrain Z71 4X4, fully decked out truck. The Silverado was more along the lines of what I wanted with the LT1 package. I don't care for leather or heated seats, but I do want power options. Far as driving impression, for never having owned a full size truck, I found the GM full size to be really easy to drive. It turned well, seemed to have good acceleration for a truck and stopped very well. The fact that the convenience package is called an LT1 on the Silverados must be a sign of some sort.

Any case, I think my best bet may to be to try and find a good clean used one with sub 10K miles, those seem to be in the range I want to pay.

Are you in Houston? If so, go to Spring Dodge and test drive a well optioned 09 Crew Cab Ram w/ the Hemi. They (Spring Dodge) are advertising 40% off 09's. I bought my previous Ram (06 Quad Cab Hemi) from them in the summer of 06. Sticker price was just under $38k and I drove it off the lot for $28,001.

The Rams resale value does stink, but you pay a good amount less in the beginning for the Ram, so it all levels out.

I like the Sierra too.

Did the Silverado have the 6 speed auto? I had an 08 VortecMax Silverado. It was a bit of a disappointment with the 4 speed auto.

Ross, I am in Houston. I will take a look at the Dodges tomorrow, I am also going to stop being a Ford racist and look at the F150s.

I am not a ford guy but F150's seem to be the best deal. You can get a nice truck like a gm but cheaper.

Have you looked at any low mileage used stuff. My roommate recently got a F150 with 6k miles on it for like 21k. (CC lariat )

The new F150's interiors are badass and rival the GM trucks IMO
Haven't been in a Dodge truck since my 98 5.9 magnum.

Neilish. Test drive all of the trucks. Overall though, if I had only those two to pick from, I would pick up the GMC. Definitely would be the best overall fit for you.

Yes, I've seen the pictures and they look very nice but all I said was that I haven't been inside of one and actually ridden in one newer than my 98.

I like my 06 Laramie a lot. The GMC has a nicer interior though. I'm sure you'll be happy with either.

I've got an 07 Sierra, new body style. I love it, best riding new truck in my opinion. Mine has the 5.3 in it and has good power.

For 09 they offer the 6.2L in all crew cab GM full size trucks, 403hp / 417tq. I wish I could have gone with that but I'm sure they'll be pricey.

I say GMC.
