Stay away from I think I'm going to go with the Tahoe, I have been looking a little bit. For around 10k I can get a loaded Tahoe with 20-22's, I found a few Excursions around the 10k range and most had an *** load of miles.
The Tahoe does have its advantages as far as easy to maintenance and replace parts/motors if something were to go out.
The Excursion also has its advantages as far as space, towing and Diesel. Parking at the house is not an issue.
We are going to look at a few of each this weekend, unless we see an Excursion we really like then more than likely we will go with the Tahoe

Stay away from Torsion bar suspension if you can. I do not think they are very good. Also watch out for the "SUPER DOOPER" air/hydraulic suspension on the chevy's or the special SHOCK setup" They are crap. Very expensive to repair if wore out!!!! I have one (Tahoe) I know for sure...
I'm assuming you are referring to Excursions, not Expeditions...? We've had a 2004 Expedition now for two years and it has been completely rattle and problem free. Has 90K+ miles already. Not too big complaints at the various Ford forums, either.
