Default Any over-seas workers?

Anyone on here do any contract work over in iraq/afgan?

Got a lead on a job over there that I might be taking, just curious if anyone on here knows anything about that side of the world.

It's on Bagram Base, if that helps any...

Who are you going to be working for if you can post that. Im an active duty Marine "For now a recruiter in Weatherford" so ive spent a couple of years over there working next to civilians and they didnt seem to mind it much. you go kinde crazy cause of the lack of things to do but you find your grove after a while i guess. Its a good time to get in shape they usually have nice gyms and good chow with a fairly healthy selection. If your married and not used to being away it can be tough, we had video teleconfrence capability so once every couple months we could sit "face to face" with our famlies. Its a good time though I love being over there, makes me thankful for having the good ole USA to come home to. Sorry if I Dragged that out.

My cousin (Randy_S) worked over in Iraq for about 2 years. I'm sure he'll chime in here.

I have two friends at Bagram:one's a carpenter with KBR;the other's an Apache simulator tech(he worked in Iraq,too)with....can't remember at this time. The latter gets more money and less hours required.

I got a passport last year with o/s in mind. My current contract-job here has less than two years left. I wouldn't be surprised if they lay-off a tech at the end of this fiscal year.

The jobs/conditions are pretty safe. .

From what I've been told, its a pretty lax atmosphere over there. Bagram is like a damn city.

Do it, good pay and they take care of you. Be sure to travel when you have days off.

My dads been over there for about 4 years now. I can't think of the name of the company he is with now but he started off with KBR when he first left. Other than heat he says the pay is great and there isn't too much to worry about anymore in regards to the violence.

Like said above, I did my time there. Like AGRV8D said, it isn't as bad as it used to be but you still need to be aware of your surroundings and know where to duck and cover to if needed. The money is pretty good, the hours are long but easy, the overtime is guaranteed yet you WILL NOT get time and a half for over 40 unless things have changed. AG can chime in on that if he wishes.

If you are close to your family, the first few months gone is doable but the last one or two months is hell when you are ready to see home and loved ones.

If you go, get a good camera and take lots of pictures. Definitely a place that not everyone can say that they have seen, kindof like Rosie O'Donnells cooter! hahaha

Send AG or me a PM. We used to work together. I work in Iraq. I used to work in Afg so if you have any questions about the place drop me a line.

Beatuiful Country (Snow capped mountains in July) but the people live in the dark ages.

I been to Bagam a few times. Was there a few weeks ago. Kid Rock came out and did some acoustic songs for us. It's an ok place to be. It is kinda like a city.
