Nothing like the feeling of watching your home being built. We moved into our house almost a year ago, and it still feels new.
Even though we didn't go the full custom route, we had a very positive experience overall with our builder (Meritage). Our first build manager was worthless, but after he got RIF'd, the new guy was GREAT! He listened, took notes, and then lo and behold, STUFF GOT DONE!

We started with a generic floorplan...and changed everything. Excellent experience, they were willing to let us change just about anything we wanted, and worked with us to do so. I changed up the entire front elevation, designed the stone and window brick treatments, various internal wall reconfigs, made 2 bays of the garage longer to fit my dually, extended the rear patio, added the wall upstairs to create a media room, moved the master bath around to get a bigger closet space, designed the rear windows in the living room, etc... We picked all the colors, finishes, tiles, brick, etc...
let me know if you ever want to set up a draught beer / bar area

You know I'm majorly paranoid too. I hate the idea of anyone knowing where I live. No one that I work with knows where I live, all my mail is rerouted, no bills sent to my residence...etc...
I let one guy from Tech meet me at my house, which I really didn't have an option since he was driving from the DFW area to swap a peice that we needed tools for... but I'm still kinda uneasy about that...
Honestly, the DL doesn't show my exact address, legally I live 40 miles from where I reside, but my current location is "temporary" and "short lived"...

Because an ls1tech member breaks into multiple storage units at my complex on the same visit.
Because an ls1tech member drives past 5000 tailgates to steal mine first.
Sorry for being happy that my house construction is completed.
I'm not worried about people on ls1tech, nor am I a recluse that worries about what everyone else may or may not do. If I catch them, they have more to worry about. In fact, I would like to personally invite anyone who has stolen from me recently over for dinner. PM me if you need the address.

BTW, its a very nice house. Thats cool. I'm still working on my Engineering Degree and I work as much as I can while keeping my sanity. Hopefully one day I'll have a decent place and some toys...

I'm not trying to be nosey, but I'm wondering what it cost to have it built, not necessarily what its worth...
I've been around a few builds here lately, and its surprising how 'cheap' it is to build as opposed to buying around here...
Example, my co-worker just finished his at under $80k... and the insurance company appraised it at $170K... yeah

I guess I should specify that the cost I'm referring to as building cost is the price the builder is paying... if that matters much...
My co-worker or whatever you want to call him has done pretty much everything on his own... pretty much a "wholesale" house...
He has close to $80k invested now, but it he paid to have someone build it entirely for him it was gonna be close to $130k mark...
Seems really radical...
ofcourse he did all the painting, trim work, all the little stuff, he basically paid for the few major steps
