ok so what's should I do?

Replace the Steel Ring and keep the billet key setup and pay the 1K?

Tough call . $1K in just labor sounds really high to me . The ring is about $50 or so and the keys are less than $10.00 if going with the stamp steel ones .

So if I go back to stamp steel keys I won't have to worry about it cracking the ring again?

I doubt it will crack the ring but could tear the keys up like they do in the F body . Either way , I would be a little more gentle with 3rd gear and make sure your clutch adjustments are as close to perfect as possible .

well crap I guess I may just replace the ring and leave the billet keys in but the cost of labor is questionable

Just make sure you don't hammer 3rd gear too hard and check the clutch in good working order .
