Default CHL Permit

Does anyone here have one? And where would you recommend taking the class at? I am about to get a new S&W M&P .40 as soon as income tax comes in.

Tons of guys have em. I took mine through Pruetts Guns and Ammo. Content is all basically the same. Jim is a crazy guy, he kept it entertaining.

I just took the class last weekend at a local gun shop. Cost me $105.. IMO anything over that and you are wasting your money. He did the photos and fingerprints as well.

the class isn't what costs the $$...it's the $300 you have to give the gov't for your background check...

It does not cost $300.

My class was $89 with all the paperwork. After you get your cert. you send $140 to Austin for the background checks.

Ive heard that if you get pulled over and have even a trace of alcohol on your breath than its a felony if you have a CHL. I like to go catch a game @ BWW and maybe have a beer or 2, im 6'2 240 and have a high tolerance. 2 beers isnt going to do **** and i dont want a felony. BUT this is just hear say so IDK

If you think drinking and having a gun on your person is ok then you probably don't need a chl.

Downside is that when you register for a CHL that becomes public records. Which means I can look up every single CHL carrier just by doing some searches ont he net or going to look through records. http://www.buckeyefirearms.org/node/2829 read the bottom of this article.

I'm aware of other downsides but don't want to start a huge argument as I'm sure others will disagree.

I agree, he didn't say have two beers on his drive home or anything. You'll be fine having two beers, you just can't be over the limit..

It is unlawful for a handgun license holder to carry a
handgun while intoxicated.

not having the normal use of mental or physical faculties by reason of the introduction of alcohol, a controlled substance, a drug, a dangerous drug, a combination of two or more of those substances, or any other substance into the body; or (B) having an alcohol concentration of 0.08 or more.

You are incorrect. The hand gun codes do not define intoxicated in the same fashion as motor vehicle codes. If you register any traceable amount of alcohol, it is considered intoxicated.

you renew it every 10 years. I carry mine in my purse at all times, unless going into an establishment that does not allow licensed carry i.e. bank, hospital, bar etc...

correct. IF you are pulled over with a traceable amount of alcohol, regardless of if you are CARRYING or not, if you have a CHL, they can pull your license and you will never be able to get another.
