Question towing with mid size SUV

Anybody ever tow their f-body with a mid-size SUV (Grand Cherokee, Explorer, Blazer, etc)?

I'm pondering getting something to tow the car with, but dont want a truck or large SUV. looking to maybe get another 5.2L V8 ZJ Grand Cherokee (93-98). Supposedly it has like a 6500lb towing capacity, so it should be able to do it, but i want to hear y'alls experiences.

get a TBSS and put helper bags on it or something. That would be sweet.

I'm sure a full-sized truck or SUV will get similar mileage as a mid-sized SUV with a V8. It will also have a better towing capacity and more room. I'd go full size if you are going to be towing another vehicle. If it were jet skis or a small boat, I'd say the mid-sized SUV would be fine, but in this case, go full-size.

I used to tow my 76 camaro/car trailer with a 97 Cherokee sport. With the straight 6 4.0 liter. I used a load leveling hitch with a sway control, it worked excellent. (The trailer had electric brakes). I see no point in getting a big truck unless your going every weekend.

They have an airbag suspension in the rear stock. No need for helper bags.

But yes, a TBSS is capable of towing a car. An LS2 and 4.10 gears will get it done. If you don't want the lower gas milage of a TBSS, you can get a 5.3L model also.

I pulled my Ta to Vernon last year with my Suburban with a temporary tow tune and got 14 mpg there and back, even having tow races with the rest of my crowd. I agree with the statement above that you will get the same fuel economy with a v8 mid vs full size. I would stick with GM for best gas fuel economy.

Tow mine with the Suburban in my sig. Does it with ease.

I've also towed a '94 Buick Roadmaster with my old '85 3/4-ton 'burb. Best tow vehicle I ever had. 454ci with TH-400.

Towed a 5000lb load with an older Explorer. Hated it. No power, brakes sucked.
