Pudge is an Astro. Ivan Rodriguez will likely sign with the Astros after the World Baseball Classic. I don't care if he's as old as the hills, we needed another decent option at catcher. Since the 5 catchers in spring training are batting a whopping average of .160, I can't see how this signing could hurt.

The Astros are 1-14 in spring training. I know you can't really trust spring training numbers or results, but it doesn't look too promising.

Richard Justice can't seem to get the taste of Uncle Drayton's butt off his lips. I've met him a couple times, and he's actually not as dumb as his columns lead you to believe. I think he just likes writing stuff that is so far out in left field (no pun intended) that he gets people talking/angry/laughing.
I like bringing Pudge in for a year. Why not?

I think its a good move, a one year contract is perfect because he's gonna be determined to play harder to get another contact and Plus the young buck catchers could learn allot from a Hall of fame catcher that can hit *zing* lol. True he was linked to Roids and was part of the dirty Texas Roid Rangers line up of Arod, Juan Gonzales, Canseco, Palmeiro and so on. But what he brings as a teacher and in knowledge of the game could just be what the young catchers need to at least be average. And he's banging the crap out of the ball so far in the WBC, all in all I say good move 
but they better get on it and get a young catcher that can catch, hit and handle the lineup which I doubt anything we have available in the minors can. That catcher from Netherlands looked really good against High caliber pitching and pretty decent in handling a diverse pitching staff from Netherlands. He had a NASTY arm for sure; his style of throwing out runners was reminiscent of Benito Santiago. He had Hanley Ramirez and Jose Reyes on check, during both games against the Dominican.

I think it's a good move. The Astros believe that Jason Castro is a year away, and with the catchers they have this will probably turn out to be a smart move. Castro hopefully will be a franchise type catcher for about 10 years. Guy is a stud.

A million to get some production from the 8 spot instead of none. The release of Ausmus was a clear signal they wanted to sign a vet with a bat. And while this is not going to be like going to Arlington stadium in the old days, Pudge can still bat over .200 - the other options can't.
smart move... as mmiller said castro isnt ready just yet for the call up. Its clear that Pudge even being an old fart is still much better that the Towles/Quintero combo. I wonder which one of those will make the cut as the back up this season.

I think Quintero has more upside, though it is still mostly as much unrealized as poor little J.R.R. Towlkien. But, he has some injury issues I guess.
