Camcorder help

iv got a old camera of my friends that has a few videos of him mudding and a few of me racing but the problem is that my computer will reconize it but i have to dl software for it. Iv tried downloading the softwear off of sony's website but i dont have the serial #, due to my friend losing the CD that has the seial # on it.

Cliff notes: Have friends camera, lost CD which has the serial #, cant find the place to download the required software for the camera

you really shouldnt need the software just to view the info on the camera, when you plug it in, look in my computer to see if its one of the devices listed

Tried that and all it says is i need a driver, and when i went to sony they pretty much told me i need to install the program with the cd which i dont have anymore so i got screwed

What OS do you have Windows XP,2000,Vista?

Awhile back my cuz was trying to download video from his friends camera using a USB cable but wasnt able to.
I tried @ my house with a "FireWire Cable" which u can buy @ walmart for 7 bucks & up, I was able to download the video using movie maker.

Thats if your computer has an input for "FireWire Cable"...It looks similar to a USB input but a bit bigger.

it asks me to enter the serial # from the cd when i try to download it

Im sorry but I meant for you to read this part, "The USB streaming feature is not supported with the Windows Vista operating system" from the site & well since you have windows Vista.

Thats why I meant for you to try using a firewire.
