It is an overgrown 2.8 liter. Worst V6 chevrolet ever made. Oiling issues, no power. Plus it is still a flat tappet cam and would be advisable to run that zinc additive.

I'm trying to get a camaro for my girl, and we don't have alot of money, thats all we came up with so far..

I have the complete oposite opinion of everyone else. That was my first f-body. Same year, motor and had an A4. I love the **** out of that car. I know there's a lot of problems with the motor and it is an overgrown 2.8. But at that, it is a head/cam 2.8L. lol. There are some engine modifications you can do by using factory GM parts (like aluminum Grand Prix heads, etc). I loved that car as my frist f-body and for a girl I'm sure it wouldn't be under powered. find a 96 or newer and get the 3.8... very hearty motor... ive got over 150K on my car and it has been very reliable.

I have had both. I had a 94 with the 3.4 and a 97 with the 3.8. The 3.4 wasn't crap for me. It ran to 240k before I sold it for my 97 and I still see it around town. Now with that said my 3.8 had not much more hp, but a ton more tq. I still have it and it has 180k on it and still runs like a champ! A few mods on the 3.8. Great car and like said above the 3800 will take tons of abbuse and keep going. Plus there are a lot of parts you can get for those if you are into it. If I were you I would look at 3.8s it also did way better on gas than my 3.4.

The 3.4L isn't a bad engine... it's just not a great one. Don't waste money modifying it, and instead just save up for new and better things.

I have had both motors and yes the 3.8 has a lot more tq. Either engine is great in my opinion. My 3.4 had 211K when I sold it and I see it every now and then. The 3.8 is probably run into the ground by now cause I sold it to a crack head lol. If you find a clean 3.4 I wouldn't hesitate to buy it, same with the 3.8 tho. I say it's your call...

Not to hijack but if anyone is looking for a 3.4L, let me know, I have one sitting in my garage from my 93 Camaro. (Doing an LS1 swap now.) It would be great to get this 3.4L out of my garage to someone who could get good use out of it.

That engine has been with me through a ton of stuff in my life and I loved the hell out of that Camaro with the slow *** 3.4L in it. It was a fun car. It's got 120k on it, before I pulled it, it ran just as good as it did when I first bought the car.

I also have the rearend, the driveshaft, and the transmission, so if anyone needs this stuff, let me know! **** now I made this post sound like a Parts Classifieds post....

if it was for gf, i would find a good 3.8 car. the parts are easier to find than 3.4.

A 3.4 is better built than a 3.8...

3.8=faster
3.4=better built

that simple, I love mine.

if I had the choice, get the 3.8. But I have had a 3.4 and it was very reliable and took tons of abuse, even highly modified.

my 1st car was a 94 V6 camaro. when i traded it in for my 98 Z28 it had almost 100K miles on it. I still see it around town every now and then. I know it must have almost 200K miles on it now. They're long-lasting as long as they're properly taken care of. I never really had any problems with it.

I had one for a while, and my biggest complaint is that is was a real PITA to work on. I would rather change out a set of valve springs on an LS1 than do anything on a 3.4L. Keep your eye out for a 3.8L or even an LT1 Camaro, they are getting really cheap lately.

That's interesting about dropping a 3.4 in those old MG's, if you think that 3.4 didn't have any torque, you should try out the stock 4 cylinder in the MGB ! LOL
