gonna have to disagree to an extent. I disagree with the notpart of not possible and you dont need 1000 hp as a fact. A ****-ton of power yes, but im sure theres cars out there that could do it with less. its possible for sure, not easy. not to mention he never said gasoline haha.
Rage i very highly dought it man, you going to be the first? LMRs latest entry is a TT 1100 whp camaro and i think their shootin for like 220mph if itall hook good enough.
What fuel what motor and what car?
something like a Mosler MT900 Photon starts as an ls6 car and its like 1300 lbs or something stupid low like that, not to mention its an aerodynamic masterpiece. fully build the nastyiest all motor lsx there is, stick it in an MT900 and give it a whirl
EDIT- MT900 is 1980lbs dry per MotorTrend

A MT900S Photon variant is available which adds a Hewland transmission, thinwall subframes, Dymag carbon fiber magnesium wheels, titanium springs, and carbon fiber seats and bodywork, reducing the car's weight to just under its initial target at 898 kg (1980 lb). This is technically a $50,000 option package for the MT900S. As of January, 2005, a single Photon had been built and was sold for use in the United Kingdom.

LOL, so what your sayin is its possible!
Haha, good call on that one, where did you dind that little tid-bit? Kinda more the idea i was getting at though. Also the one MotorTrend tested had the Hewland, dunno bout the rest, price as tested was $210,000.
but anyway, you get the idea, super light, super aero, uber-nasty motor, perfect gear ratios, and now its very possible.
one thing i always keep in mind bout the texas mile is after the first quarter your already goin at least 120mph ( if your shooting for 200 ) so for the next 3/4 mile Aerodynamics are going to play a huge roll, much more than the first 1/4.

We will be there in our 01 z06 ls3 based 427. Going to do a video soon. I know for a fact we did 60 to 187 in just under 3/4 mile on my stock wheels and my small set of heads.

Unless ya'll have been to the mile please do not make guess.
All the runs this past March are with a 20mph tail wind. Cars were running 10+mph faster than any other dya they would have ran out there.
Big Red in the 69 camaro making 1000+rwhp went 210mph without a tailwind.
Give you some ideas on power to speed
330rwhp - 143mph
430rwhp - 166
600rwhp -180
800rwhp - 190
900-1000rwhp - 200
1100 rwhp 210-220
1300rwhp - 230
1500rwhp - 240
The last 2 are estimates becasue the only cars hitting those marks ar SW and Bahn in their supras.
Tiago is right - I don't even ask what car you have to tell you your speed (unless your a truck). I have been pretty close for the past 5 yrs predicting speed out there.

SW isn't running that much power at the mile either... Todd went 192 in his 911 with nowhere near 800 whp (~560). There is no magic hp number to reach each mph unless you are comparing the same vehicle.
