Quiet
"Stock" appearing (No huge tires, visible turbos, in your face suspension mods, etc)
Faster than normally expected

Basically I would say a sleeper is "a vehicle that is a lot faster than most people would expect after casually looking at it".

It can be a clean stock appearing car (or truck) that has some serious ***** under the hood, or it can even be a car that looks like **** but goes like stink.

Does that help?

At first glance it looks to be just your average car...but as soon as driver hits the accelerator you're forced to think twice.

Kinda like a Firebird V6... that's had an LS1 swap.

Would you consider a stock looking Z06 and a modded Z06. One has a few mods and the other has a built 427 in it. The one with the built motor is completly stock on the outside. The other one has wheels and lowered a bit They race each other and the stock looking one waxes the modded looking one.

Would you consider that a sleeper Z06?

Or lets say a debagged Camaro Z28 with a single outlet exhaust?

A Z06 can be a sleeper. Here is an example

For me, it is a car that looks stock, whether it is in good shape or not, but has quite a bit more going for it in regards to performance.

When I think of the most extreme levels of a sleeper, I think of a car that is usually not associated with anything having to do with speed/performance, but performs like quite the opposite; a vehicle built for performance.

Example...a buddy has a lincoln town car that at first appears stock, sounds stock. However, he recently ran an 11.0x.

Here is an example: A guy a couple years ago ran around a few of the meets in a purple mid 90s Chevy Beretta with a nice sized turbo. He also had some drag radials out front on the stock wheels. Im sure a few of you know who im talkin about. Let's just say he surprised everyone haha.

If some guy thinks your car is a pos, slow or a combination of these two things in relation to whatever it is that he drives, and you beat him then that's a sleeper car. Usually there's a power adder or engine transplant involved. Can be in many forms.

V6 camaro with a turbo is an example of a sleeper.

Also if you sit on your hand for an hour and then rub one off isn't that also a "sleeper"? No that's a stranger, n/m.
