Default What is next for the Astros?

After a dismal season for the Astros and the firing of Cooper today, what direction do we see the Astros going. I see them not spending anymore money to bring in quality players so it will be another flop year in 2010.

1. Field a young team w/ a couple of vets - Berkman, Oswalt, Lee (since they are under contract)
2. Hire a blah manager
3. Raise the beer prices

It's called "rebuilding". They should have done it 3 years ago and I'm not too convinced they will even start now.

When it all comes down to it, Drayton is the problem.

I think they could step back and maybe be contenders in AA.

The Astros need to completely rebuild. The only players that I wouldn't consider trading are Pence, Castro, or Bourn. They should consider offers for anyone if the return is right. Yes, the Astros are going to suck for several years if they rebuild, but they're not going to go anywhere with the crew they've got. Why not start over and start younger by building a solid foundation for the future and stockpile young, talented guys?

My biggest fear is that Drayton won't do that because he's afraid of losing attendance dollars in the rebuilding years and he won't do what needs to be done because thats all he cares about is making money and isn't serious about winning.

Wow this sucks. I kinda liked Cooper. I am a diehard Astros fan, so even when they suck badly, I still watch. I'd fire every pitcher except Oswalt and Norris. Pitching is their real problem, even in most of their losses they still managed to put points on the board.

I would have traded Tejada, Oswalt, and Valverde at mid season to contenders. Norris, Paulino, Pence, and Bourn are the future of this team. We need to get what we can for the big name guys and eat the losses for a couple years. I don't mind keeping Berkman and Lee as they maintain a veteran presence on the team and will keep the younger guys more relaxed at the plate. However, I would deal them for the right prospects.

go out and get some #2 and #3 starters that can win AT LEAST 8 or 9 games.

trade Oswalt, Mohler and Hawkins. hurts to see Oswalt go, but he needs a change of scenery. we can get some great pithcing for him as well.

keep Lee, Pence, Bourn and Berkman (eventhough the Big Puma is playing like the Big Tumah)

Lee is an RBI machine and is great when it comes to playing everyday. Pence is a young guy that no one would have ever thought could hit 25HR's and get over 70RBI. he's a great runner and can play right field with the best of'em. if Bourn can hover around .285, he will easily get 60 SB's a year. puts himself in scoring posistion and can stretch a single into a double. can score from first base on a double.

no one thought about pitching this year.

Side note:

I'm going to the last game of the season in a couple weeks in NYC against the Mets.
