Default Registration Ticket ?

Hey guys my fiance got pulled over today in my truck and the registration was out in it. well she got a ticket and she asked him if there was a grace period and he said its five days and its the 8th and there is nothing that can be done about it..

The rumer i always have heard is that its a 10 day grace period. i was wondering if anyone else has had this problem before and how to go about taking care of it.. Is that 10 days after the first or when the ticket was issued?

I have the papers to get tags just forgot all about it..

Any suggestions!

Take a look at the Texas Transportation Code: 502.401 (c). It states the offense is a misdeamnor and fine is maxed out at $200.

The grace period you are referring to is codified for inspection stickers in section 548.605. If the inspection sticker is not expired for more than 60 days and you remedy it within 10 days, you can get it dismissed by the court for $10 (a post compliance fee).

These offenses are not moving violations and do not go on your record so don't sweat it. You can also try to remedy the registration and try to get it dismissed for the post compliance fee as well - it's done in bigger cities frequently.

Go get the registration done on it. At that time they will ask you if you have received a ticket for it. Answer yes and they will add a 12% penalty to the total. Take that paper they give you to court and they will dismiss the ticket for you.

Can I legally drive my car after the registration expires?

Yes. A vehicle may be operated up to five working days after the registration expires without penalty. After those five days, you can receive a ticket of up to $200.

yea dsim is right, five WORKING days. so not counting the weekends/holidays. I think the 8th landed on like the 6th working day so you would have still received a ticket.

Just FYI, they make a 23 month sticker now. It costs $91, as opposed to the 11 month which costs $54. This was in Harris County, I don't know if it changes from county to county.

You can purchase additional months if you ask for it. Out of several thousand stickers we have sold in the past 18 months, not a single person I am aware of has asked for it.
