Neither he nor the Hotel were from Texas! Just FYI

He was born in Virginia and the spot-lighted hotel was in Taos, New Mexico.

He was born in VA, but spent over 24 years in Texas. I think that makes him just as much of a Texan as anything else.

I read this earlier. I don't really blame him for trying to make things more customer friendly. It is his $2 million on the line. I like how the manager told the employees they would have to give him a chance, like she was going to fire him if he didn't work out. It is his place if you don't like it get the hell out. He broke no laws and why is it so much to ask that people speak english? Last time I checked this was America. Oh and that one person interviewed said spanish was spoken there long before english. Last time I checked Mexico lost and there are stars and bars flying at the New Mexico state capitol.

X2 So sick of everything catering to those that can't or refuse to speak English. The politicians are so afraid of offending the hispanic voting base by making English the official language like they should. I mean most people learn in school that one of the basic characteristics of a nation is a common language. Enough of that rant, the owner was within his rights to ask what he asked, and if the employees didn't like it then leave.

What irks me is it's NOT OK for him to do this, but when we call tech support and get someone in Bangalore, we are greeted with, "Tankoo por calling Dell. Dis is 'Bob'. How am I to be helping joo today?"

Seriously?

Borders, language, and culture.

Our national language should be English.

I can relate to the sentiment. I think requiring his employees to speak English is perfectly fine, it's what he thinks is good for his business. However, asking people to change their names or even the pronunciation thereof is way out of line. The employees names have nothing to do with how well a business performs.

Being from south Texas I have run into my share of problems with businesses whose employees do not have a good enough grasp of the English language to respond to even simple requests. Not long ago my Mom tried to order pizza from Pizza Hut. The woman employee kept asking her to PLEASE SPEAK SPANISH!! And then hung up on my Mom when she told her no. I only wish this were an isolated incident, but we encounter it constantly here.

All that said, I think this guy was perfectly fine until he asked the employees to alter their names.

You know why hes such a dumbass?? Former Marine, there you have it. I see it everyday, these dumbasses leave the service and think things work the same way in the civilian world. The Marine Corps did this to him, not being a Texan.

just out of morbid curiosity, why would you insult someone that served your country and put themselves in harms way so that you have the right to live free and safe from those that might want to do you harm?
