Default lost title....

buying a roller..but the title is lost...
what is the correct process to get one? guy selling the car to me just get paperwork at local title place, fill it out, pay for paperwork fees, you mail that to the state, then the state sends you something back, thenn. you go to title place get a copy of title (30 bucks or so?) then, do the title transfer and pay taxes.

does this sound correct? i dont want to buy the car and have a big hassle on getting the title later, i wanna make it a streetable car to have fun in.

appreciate answer of those who have done this procedure.

In order to apply for a lost title, the person whos name it is in must provide a copy of their driver license and sign an application for lost title form. If there is a lien showing on the title, they must have a release of lien from the bank or lending institution saying the lien has been satisfied. It could be a very simple process or a complete pain in the ***. We own a title business just south east of San Antonio and do lost titles all the time for people.

i havent done it myself but know of people who have, and if i remember correctly you fill out the form for lost title at the dmv and they send a letter to the last registered owner who has 30 days to dispute the title claim. you should atleast have a bill of sale with you from the guy you bought it from i would assume
