My T top 89 is a T56 6 speed as well as the hard top in the photos, it is a great swap and pretty straight forward. I hate the T5 now that i moved to such a nicer/stronger trans.

I have a set of the cheap aftermarket Z06's in my shop that i "may" throw on there when i send the original wheels off to be redone... think i will stay with the originals.. Build up the motor, tranny, and have kind of a sleeper...

flip side of the 5/6 speed... You can't beat a stalled auto from light to light.. or @ the track for that matter... decisions, decisions...
I personally love the way those cars look with the wheels that are on it.........guess I'm the only one

Man, that's a beautiful car. Good luck with the build

cool. i know someone on this site who's son has the same car for a project. it's a blue 91 Z hardtop. originally a 350 TPI car but the motor/trans were pulled at ~50k mi by the previous owner for a drag car project that never happened so now it's getting an LT1/4l60e swap.

I like the stockers, but they look plain unless painted.

Stock 91-92 z28 wheels > *

The t5 i have came out of a 92 305 stripper z i got when i graduated in 97. Zone is right though. They dont last long behind any kind of power. Mine was cutting 1.7 60's though

Trans has no 3rd and sticks in 4th. Id sell the whole setup though for $350

Hey OP your son would appreciate this car 1000x more if you got him into the build too. I think this would be a great surprise type present if thats what your goin for, but personally from experience, i think that actually doin the swap together and all that stuff he would enjoy it alot! Plus he would take alot more care of it, know everything about his car, and a great father and son bonding experience.

Car looks great though and he will love it anyhow. And idk if its a first car or not, but it would be pretty kick-*** to roll up in that to school everyday!

Alot of great feedback... My eldest son is 18.. he and i built up his 2000 Grand Prix GTP.. he graduates this year and is off to the Air Force.. (Nuclear Medicine) that was his first car...

The Z28 in for my now 11 y/o son and yes, i am going to have him pulling out seats, carpet, installing Dynamat, cleaning interior pieces etc... I will do the heavy lifting and guide his hands.. I am NO real mechanic mind you, but i have acess to a lift @ a friends house to do the fun stuff.. We have time to do it Slow.. It will be his first car and yes, i do believe he will respect it more doing some of the work himself. Will not really get started til May/June, but i will keep you posted.. Thanks again for the kind words..
