Default Anyone know what might be wrong??

My 98 z28 has been surging badly and randomly reving up, mostly when it first turns on but sometimes even when im driving, I am not sure what this could be. The coolant temp. sensor was put on because it didnt have one before and right when it was put on the problem started. Has anyone ever heard or had this problem before?

Sounds like O2 sensors are bad. My 99 SS did the exact same thing when one of the sensor went bad.

front o2 sensors yes, rears no... he said he has o2 codes from the header install which are more than likely the rears, so that won't create a driveability issue... the coolant temp sensor can cause problems... did you clear the codes and do an idle relearn after you put the new sensor on?... if not, i would do that and go from there

I got the codes cleared and it idles fine now when i turn it on.. But when im driving the car surges and it bucks. Sometimes when I stop the rpms go up to about 2000 and back down and back up over and over.

my 98 formula did that for a while after i had the sensor replaced. i think the computer is just trying to figure out if the sensor is actually working again. mine stopped doing that after like 3 or 4 days on its own

I took the sensor off and its running perfectly fine now, has something to do with that, either the sensor is messed up, wiring could be messed up, or the computer needs to get used to the new sensor.

Check the temp sensor connector for corrosion.. I fought my 5.3 truck tooth and nail for forever before I found a corroded temp sensor plug that was causing similar issues.
