Default Emissions question? LSx thirdgen?

Im trying to decide what my next project will be and am leaning towards another thirdgen but droppin a LSx/T56 combo in. I live in Anna(collin county), any ways around the emissions bullshit being the car would be non obd2 originally?

If you go with all the original equipment, technically it should pass emissions better than the original setup.

I'm pretty sure it will have to pass a sniffer test. Unless you get one that's more than 24 years old . Not hard to do since a '90 is 20 years old

That helps a little, I'm really wondering if I roll in with a 89 IROC with a LS1 if I can get em to test it with the OBD2 port or if they'll sniffer test it. By year it should be sniffered but by motor/computer it should be OBD2

The Vehicle will be required to meet and pass the Federal Emissions label that it was manufactured with. If you are upfitting it with an OBDll standards then unless you have a really trash tune it will exceed the emissions label that the car was manufactured with. I remember reading something years ago about it being against Federal law to replace a powerplant with anything other than what the vehicle was equipped with originally. I got deep into this with some folks when I was repowering several cars and trucks in the 90s but no one challenged me on it, it was just conversation. I believe your early Iroc would only have had cats and A.I.R. System. Was it tune port 5.0 or 5.7?

The car was just a hypothetical, I haven't picked one up yet. trying to decide if its worth swapping an LS1 into a 3rd gen or just picking up a 4th gen LS1 car from the start. How would it work if I had 2 cars registered in an emissions county but one registered out of emissions all under my name?

Im not sure about the emissions registry. We dont have emissions testing in my county. Only that if the vehicle is equipped it better be there. Ours is strictly a safety inspection and all my late models are cat deleted and flow through mufflers. No one has ever looked under the vehicles. I dont know anything about the area you live in. I would just do it and see what happens, there is always a way around everything

Just keep a few highflow cats on the shelf for when its inspection time. As long as you get a v8 thirdgen, you should be ok...worst case register it here in Longview lol
