$450??!??!? Well don't they prorate the cancellation fee? I thought we wernt the only ones who did that. Plus that's high. For us it's $200 per line bedew prorated rates. What's verizon? Double check that. It's high.
Any update though. Did you call an complain?

yeah it is crazy high, here is how it reads.
Advanced phones, like the one i have, is $350 minus $10 for every month of the contract completed. So i have had the service for 8 months. so for my line is $270 dollars.
Non advanced phones, like my wifes, is $175 minus $5 for every month of the contract completed. That is $135 for her line.
The 2 combined equals $405! yeah it sucks...

I used to manage many of the cell phone towers in your area and going from memory all the carriers were spotty. I seemed to have the best luck with AT&T but in the same token Verizon is upgrading their network in Texas big time currently. Also a carrier I had quite a bit down there was Cellular One, T-Mobile had a few sites but I haven't ever really tested them. Once you headed West on 22 it was hit and miss.
With everything going on I still think Verizon/AT&T and possibly Cell One are your best bets. I haven't managed that area for a few years though so things might have changed.
