Rudy's is not bad, but it is like the McDonald's of BBQ. It's cheap and easy and it's a chain restaurant.

Lockhart is definitely a Mecca when it comes to BBQ. There are 4 BBQ places and I've only been to 2 of them, but you really can't go wrong in Lockhart.

Salt Lick in Driftwood is great.

Cooper's in Llano is even better.

It's been a while. I think it's time to go again, but can't this weekend. I'll buy yours and you buy mine.

theres a place called rail head on montgomery over off 30. they're pretty good. honestly, though, the best bbq ive ever had was homemade by a friend of mines father. my dads pickin up on it, and he's starting to make some pretty good stuff himself

I'm gonna have to try that this weekend. And ya best bbq I've had has been what I've made or my father or brother. It just tastes better when you do it yourself in your backyard, but figured it was irrelevant to this thread.

Also in Say Town: Bob's Smokehouse is very black-traditional [on Fredericksburg Road & on Roland at Rigsby] but don't go there in your dress cloths if you don't wanna smell like smoke. They keep the BBQ sauce hot in old-style percolators.
Gottadmit Rudy's does a fine job. Especially in Corpus Christi when needing to get a "beef fix" after eating fish at the coast [kind of like being away from San Antonio: when you get back you gotta get some Mexican food before you feel OK again].
I hear you guys preaching about Lockhart, but there was a pretty good traditional 'black' BBQ joint in Luling, but that's been a while [for me]...

anything from Lockhart since it is deemed as the BBQ capitol of Texas.

Kreutz, Chisholm Trail, Blacks, Smitty's, Etc.

Salt Lick (the original in Driftwood) isn't as good (meat products wise) but their sauce is awesome (prefer the habanero)

pretty much Houston has only Mediocre bbq to offer in comparison.
