so, where do i run the wire thats coming out of the back of the alternator which is the charge conection? do i run it to the postive side of the battery?

Yes, the charge wire would go to the positve on the battery.

i tried that but it would shoot sparks when at high rpm. do i need like a voltage regulator or something between the battery and the altenator on that wire?

shouldnt have to put anything in line. Ive never heard of it sparking at high rpm. most alternators do not put out any extra amperage after 2k rpm. Maybe you have a faulty alt. I bought one once that failed the same night I bought/installed it, so, you never know. Mine turned its insides into little tiny pieces when it happened though so it was a more obvious situation.
