Theres been so much speculation on as to why this happened and the more I watch the video the more it looks like that cross wind everyone was talkign about just caught the shoot and pulled the rear end out from under him.

There are only two reasons the car did what it did.

A. The driver did not drive through the shoot. Meaning he let off the gas and got on the brake before the parachute blossomed. If you let off the gas before the chute deploys, it unloads the *** end of the car, and then when the chute actually blossoms, its going to make it twice as worse causing it the lift the rear of the car.

B. The parachute was mounted under cam centerline. I know on a Camaro or a Corvette, we have to mount the parachute on exact cam center line. If the chute is mounted above cam center line, the nose of the car will come off the ground when the chute blossoms. If the chute is mounted under cam center line, the *** end of the car will be lifted in the air when the chute blossoms.

I am sure the cross wind did not help anything either once the *** end of the car got loose from either of these two issues.

Ah, thanks for the explanation. I never knew there was so much involved in a chute. But I guess it all makes sense now that I think about it.

Thats the first thing i thought of. You can see the brake lights before the shoot is fully out.

All in all thank god he is ok to race another day.

Here's an in car video of my G8 going 168.7mph.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eEpBUpoynMU

Here's an outside video of the car going 167.6mph:

We had a blast and didn't break anything, even after making 13 runs.

Is there license requirements at The Mile?

at most drag racing events you are required to have your NHRA license, etc.

so at The Mile, can joe blow walk off the street w/ a 230+ capable car and drive it himself?

i watched the footage from March of the UGR Lambo spinning out several times while braking at the end. Now he flips the car, and people have commented that driver error was part of the reason.

i have no prior knowledge of the owners past experiences other then the spin out videos, but from what i've seen, he wasn't an experienced driver. in the march video i remember seeing captions that it was his first time to drive the car.

Maybe that's the first time he drove that particular car. He may have experience driving other high hp vehicles.

correct, you don't know much about the owner of the car. He has been involved in a lot of different racing scenes but when going that fast in a "new" vehicle there is still some sort of learning curve, let alone the cars weight distribution and aero could be throwing off the car as well when the chute is pulled...

@ any rate, no you don't need a specific license, BUT your car will have to pass spec/safety requirements for certain MPH. For example you need a full cage for 195+mph.

thanks for clearing that up. like i said, i had no prior knowledge of the owners driving experience other then these two videos....

guess someone should have told him the proper way to deploy a chute (granted IF that's what caused the spin out)
