Yep. For a long time, I didn't want children. Too many negative experiences with nieces and nephews. It got to a point where it almost ended up costing me my marriage. Then, a few years ago, both of my grandmothers died within about 18 months, and it hit me: They never had a chance to meet my kid(s). That's when I first started warming to the idea of becoming a father.

Still, even throughout the pregnancy, I kept hoping that "thing" in me would snap. The thing that would trigger my paternal instinct. I felt twinges of it, but we were both so focused on a healthy pregnancy and childbirth that the care and parenting parts of the job didn't really register.

They registered in the OR the second the nurse called me over to meet my son. The tears started flowing freely. Now I "know". The feeling is indescribable, just like all my "pro-kids" friends said it would be.

My wife and son are both amazing. I'm lucky to have them. I'm incredibly proud of the two of them, and looking forward to the road ahead.

That's awesome, Mike!! Congrats!! I know that feeling and it's incredible. My son turns 9 months on Christmas day. It's amazing to watch them grow up. Can't wait to start teaching him how to drive, work on cars, and how to spot fake *****. You know - the important stuff in life!!
