Or you can keep the house and make money from it each month either by living there and having roommates or renting to a family.

I lived in bay Colony off 646. Tax rate was close to 4%. If the house is free then take it. I'm glad I got out of there. I find paying that much in property taxes on a 150k to be pretty stupid considering it's Dickinson, Tx and not Beverly Hills.
Like others have said. You could rent it and have a management company do everything for you. They take 10% from the rent each month but do everything. So you will make money every month to do nothing.
