Default gto spare ???

ok so i've been seeing gto spares alot for sale and what not. so i started looking in to it. i know its a really heated topic. some people get pretty upset when talking about it. i dont think it looks half bad imo.......

but is it really that unsafe to run these even with a new set of tires up front?
and would it be terribly unsafe to dd on?

i was thinking about getting a set to use as front runners.where can you pick them up at other then on tech and a junk yard?

???? - Do you mean for front skinnys at the track? Those donuts are not rated past 55mph - if you are talking about that?

Confused by this post.

I think that is what he means is if you can drive on them or not.

I had a set and ended up selling them here about a year ago. Didn't have the ***** to run them. A ton of vette guys are doing it in the 10's at 130-140mph, and I have yet to hear of one accident. Doesn't mean I'm going to do it. Never DD on them, though.

If so, then it most definately is NOT a good idea.

I'm going to do it on my c6. with good tires on them i think they will be fine. i think just the tires are rated at 55 mph.

i would not drive around on them but i think they will be ok for just track wheels

I don't see what the problem would be.

The WHEEL isn't rated to 55mph; it's the shitty tires on it that are speed rated.

If you put a good tire on it you won't have any problems.

It wasn't too long ago the rage was everyone running VW tires on their skinnies with their Fbodies. Those TIRES had low speed ratings

now is it the tire or the rim that's rated at 55mph??I have read a few posts that say the good year tire on there is rated at 120mph or something like that... If it is just the tire thats rated at 55mph then I can't see why it'd be a safety issue if u swap on the tires.

I would think so. What wheel would ever be released that would fall apart above 55mph?

the problem is that the offset is slightly different, and you have to grind the hub down to get that wheel on.

Yes, driving habits absolutely have to change when on skinnies.

You have much less rubber contacting the road, so stopping distance needs to be taken into account and corners need to be taken at slower speeds.

Couldn't you just run a hub-centric adapter?

Yup, not the rim the tire ( I know that - ). But he never mentioned just using the rim, there are some people out there that would put it on with the HP sparetire and run it up front thinking it would be ok.

Oh, also, to answer the last part of your question...

You can pick them up from GMpartsdirect for about 65 bucks each.

fyi driving on skinies sucks lol. Like everyone says change the tire, I had a front runners set that I was going to put on mine also , but then got me some prostars and sold them. Most of the vett guys is what I seen use them, Google GTO spare , you will find a link from corvett forums , where there is a c5 running them. it will tell u what tires and sizes all of them use, and also if u use them on a Fbod , u have to get a spacer. and there is a company that makes a special spacer for it. They also have the link for it. also before u go to the track with them , Grind off the lettering on the rim and just go over it with some spray paint , cause they will not let u tech in with those rims on like that.
