My father was big into shooting. He had a large gun collection and did target and trap shooting and hunting. He taught my sister and I gun safety as soon as we were old enough to understand. The first time, as a little kid, that I fired a 12 gauge at the trap and skeet range, the recoil actually kicked the shoulder stock out of the crock of my shoulder and gave me a bloody lip. Lesson learned. The gun was a little big for me at that age. It was a single shot and so there was absolutely no chance of further rounds being fired. My dad may have been pushing the envelope a little by handing me a 12 ga. that day, but he would have never dreamed of putting a full auto machine gun in my hands. (The Army did that about 10-11 years later, haha.)

The anti-gun nutbags better not try and use this to their advantage. It was an accident and couldve happened to anybody. If he took his sons out to ride dirt bikes, he couldve crashed and killed himself there too. Not that the Dad had the best judgement, but he definitely didn't want either one of his boys hurt.

Wow thats just idiotic. I feel sorry for the guy losing his kid but damn, common sense has to come in somewhere. I started out with a single shot bolt action 22, once I got good at that I went to a semi auto 243 but only got one bullet at a time till I proved myself.

I started shooting at like 5, bb gun, bolt action 22, 30-30 winchester and then a pump action 12 guage. putting an UZI into the hands of an 8 year old is stupid. an AR15, SKS, something big and stable that the kid can hang on to, but not an UZI.

It was simply an accident though, a very very awful one.

well that was a mistake he can never have back and fix. it should be just that. he has to live with it. that should be punishment enough.
