What do you guys think of a 5.3 with standalone harness for $700? None of the LQ's I found were complete and cost the same. With the 5.3 I could have it in this weekend and from a little research it should have no problems with my 500rwhp goals.

Looks like the budget is going to be a real tight squeeze, whats saving me is I already have wheels and tires.

I would jump on the 5.3 and build a reliable car first then with the extra money throw a turbo on that way if you decide to sell after you build it you dont have a tone of money in it thats just my opinion. oh if you need any help just let me know....

I would jump on the 5.3 as well. Damn harnesses alone cost near as much for these swaps. I hope I can make mine work and just cut whatever it is I don't need.

A 5.3 would work nice in that car with the natural torque curve. It should compliment a turbo and take up the lag nicely.

I am looking forward to you completing this build, I walked around your '70 once in Pearland on a Friday night and liked the paint job. Take your time and stick to your build sheet and you will have an one of a kind car running around.

Just happens to be all I can find, made a couple phone calls though so I will see what happens tomorrow. Just trying to find a nice complete 6.0, don't want to be ******* around with finding all the parts for it since diesel is expensive. The junkyard wants $1350 for a 6.0 and yeah, that's a little much.

Should be getting the front bumper this weekend. I went to go look at a dash and interior panels but it all ended up being ****. Bodywork should start next weekend though so at least that's taken care of.

How do I fuel this thing? It has an electric pump on there but I am sure that's not going to do. Would that pump be fine until I start building the turbo kit?

i'm pretty sure you could pull the fuel system out of an ls1 f-body and make it work in the '80. which would suffice for the time being until you start the turbo build. then look for an upgrade, maybe a 255 walbro? not sure how thirsty a lq4/9 with a small single would be. you should hit up the fi section.

Yeah, have spent a ton of time in there lately. I might as well do it right the first time and put in the 255. Pretty much once I get the motor in and running I will order the turbo parts, if I don't then I won't ever do it lol.

What's the most I should pay for a 6.0 in good condition? Prices are all over the place.

Get one, I love mine. Only thing that sucks is seeing "$75" staring back at you from the pump. I have been driving everywhere lately and it's killing me. The nicer Duramax's are really overpriced though IMO but I like the 07+.

Sold it for the F250.

I think I am going to go ahead and get either a 5.3 or 6.0 from the junkyard, I think it's worth paying a little extra to get a nice complete motor. I didn't get that 5.3 I posted earlier because it was really high mile and had some sort of valvetrain tick.

As it sits, I agree. I'll withhold judgment completely until I see what he's going to do with that paint and body. It could accentuate the wheels nicely, or it could call for a whole new direction.
