I think so Mark, with the extra torque I think it will make up the weight difference. It also depends on the gearing and if the Camaro can get off the line. Stock for stock we all know the GT500 has no traction under any type of launch, but it should be a good comparison.

Basically, GM says to stay tuned about the Z28 as well as weight savings were put into the ZL1 to help keep the weight down as much as they could to keep it priced where they want it. They also hint several times that this car will perform..possibly outperform the GT500 (of course they say that but they did test the car number of times with the '11 GT500) GM is aware of what they need to do so hopefully they did if they want this car to do as well as it should.

Plus the mark up the dealers will put on it of 5-15k per car. Since they are not limited in supply, there should be no reason to mark them up, but its all about the money. I bet I can get 1 for under sticker when they come out.

Unfortunate that Chevy had to put a blower to "try to" outperform Ford. ![Embarassed](https://ls1tech.com/forums/images/smilies/LS1Tech/gr_emb.gif)

I wonder why Chevy just didn't put an LS7 under the hood or something bigger. It would have probably been a lot cheaper.
As for performance. They both will not catch traction. The GT500 is bad because it has instant torque right from the get go.. so will this car. Traction will not exist. My money is on the GT500 because of weight.

This is correct, but its more about supply vs. demand. Manufacturers take orders and build specialty vehicles in bursts 4 times a year. Alot of the the time a group of dealers in a regionial district will only get a allocation for say 20 units for the first build. That is then spread out between say 30 dealerships and the stores with the highest volume/ customer service scores will receive the the most amount of the vehicles first. So its real easy for certain dealerships to corner the market on innitial release. Customers will travel from other states to get the cars and will pay whatever its worth to them. We were one of the first dealers to get the ZR-1, the first unit we sold off the floor created a bidding war between two guys with too much money. That car ended up selling for 10k over MSRP because the guy had to be first in town to have it. The other guy ordered one, waited 10 weeks and paid alot less because demand was no longer a factor. Patience is the key to a good car deal, cash and or actual buying power help too.
