Just be careful, this is not for people that drive their cars every day or a lot for that matter. There are restrictions when you have this insurance.

Correct. Something along the lines of 3,500 miles or less per year. And you have to have another vehicle registered to your name as a daily driver.

I called and talk to both Grundy and Hagerty collector car insurance.

Grundy was $241
Hagerty was $480

My cars a weekend car if the weather is nice. I have two other vehicles I drive for work and around town.

Do they ask for the Mileage each year?

I thought about doing that for a couple of my vehicles since I never drive them and all, but I was always weary of making a claim with an insurance company that I am paying so little to.

I am mainly referring to a full coverage policy and worrying about the money that they will provide to repair my car.

They ask you how much it would cost to replace your car if something would happen. 10k.20k,30k and you they will tell you how much it will cost to cover that amount . Like for me I told them 15k so they came back with $241 full coverage.

It doesn't sound like you have dealt with many insurance companies payouts before.
They definitely aren't just going to write you a $15k check after you paid them lets just say 10 years worth of payments(a whopping 2 thousand bucks), lol.
Insurance companies are in business to make a profit.

Besides, I said repairs.

i agree with being well built. but since that thing was probably DD'd, expect a lot of rock chips, curb checks, scuffs under nose, ect that those pics arent going to easily show. not that thats a *huge* deal though.
Daily drive to the mail box and back? Who the hell doesn't put at least 8k miles on a DD in a year?

I have... Just not Collectible car Insurance.

Same Insurance company is hope you never wreck your car because you don't drive it. Thats how they make their money..

I don't see them giving you 15k if something goes wrong with the car "small car repair".

But if its a total lose this is where I would think it would pay out the value of the policy.

I could be wrong on this but from what i have read on this... this was my thoughts.

I deal with insurance companies on a daily basis and it is very rare that the insurance companies that I deal with pay policy limits.
I'm just trying to help you out and my advice is to read each and every word of your policy(not your declaration page either).
Good luck though, saving a buck now might not always pay out in the long run!

I understand and thank you for the help.

My main point for me was going from liabilityto full coverage. Saving a little money was just a bonus. lol

I hear you too, but I have never heard any negatives about these types of car insurers. My dad has two cars covered by Grundy and there are a crap load more people that use both Grundy and Hagerty. They are definately not losing money so I think the whole premise is that they are insuring cars that people treat better than their kids and there is a lot less risk involved with insuring these types of cars than regular beater, daily drivers that are on the road in rush hour traffic every day. They are insuring your car in the event you are driving too/from a car show and you get in a wreck or if your house burns down while the car is sleeping at night.

Viper looks good, but I'd check out some of the classifieds on the Viper boards. Some of those guys are "proud" of their cars but at a minimum, you can usually do some research on how the Viper has been treated and get some info in it's history.

Agreed with FASTB....this is a different group all-together of car owners. If I remember correctly, they asked for pictures of my cars when I was setting up the policy with Hagerty. Just remember to keep them in the loop on any "upgrades" you do to the car that will increase it's worth. I let them know to increase the value when I bought some wheels from Tony.

Regarding Texasdirectauto, they're worth checking out if your local. I wouldn't suggest anyone buying a car from them sight unseen though. A friend bought a truck from there and you could tell they doctored the photos to hide a dent in the bumper. Their prices used to be a lot better a few years back on both sales and trade-ins that seemed to give them an edge. Lately they seem to be on par with everyone else.

Texas Direct was OK for me. They had a 2001 Trans Am with only 10,000 miles. My car had been stolen and I wanted to replace it. The cool thing was, the former owner was on Tech!! So, I verified all the information on the car. I paid more than I wanted (even after talking them down $2,000!!), but it was practically new and completely unmodded. I had no problems with them. But, they are a used car dealer, so.....always be cautious.

Viper looks good in the pictures, although I agree with Tony regarding the stripes. At least they're on straight!!! Plus, ditch that friggin' dvd player!! Cracks me up how it flips up and blocks the A/C vents!! Derrr.......

Off topic, but Duy, do you by chance work or do business over off Westheimer and Rogerdale?
Just asking because the past few days i've seen what looks like your viper in the area behind our warehouse.
