Ignition switch location?
Ignition switch location? Ok guys I am having a hard time locating the ignition switch. I bought a new ignition switch from gm today and its a pretty big piece. I am deep into my steering column and see nothing. so does anybody have a clue on the exact location of this PITA? i am desperate and need this finished by tom. please help me
Its at the base of the column, near the firewall.
The tumbler assembly in the column only moves a long rod through the length of the column and actuates a switch at the base.
Also, there is an orange wire harness (2 tiny wires) that makes the VATS happy.
Remove the lower pieces of the dash and turn the key switch on and off and look for the rod that is moving and trace it down.

so to remove and to replace it do i drop the whole steering column or what? for some reason i was influenced that it was behind the steering wheel. so now i got to go put everything back together.
