Thumbs down Glass installation

Was at a friends house yesterday and all of the sudden heard a pop, walked closer to the street and see the glass on the hatch was totally shattered. I was pist off. There was no reason for the glass to just shatter out of the blue. No one was driving by or nothing was thrown at it.

I just got 2-12" cvr and a little amp, amp is silver, would the sun reflecting off the amp to the window caused it? I know people run 2-12's in these cars, and hell its only a 520 watt amp, so I dont think its to loud. Just not sure why the hell out of the blue it shattered. Maybe bubbles in the tint did it?

The point:

Can anyone reccomend a good glass installer, and is there any place to get the rear window other than a donor car? I have no prblem with a donor car, but just curious.

i cant see an amp causing the back window to shatter if it was the stereo it would have most likely cracked first especially if it was tinted but if it was tinted it would have held the glass together, if your car was parked and you heard a pop then saw the glass broken and no one was near it id start watching the neighbor kids that live in the area you never know one of the little *** holes may have gotten a new bb gun if you get my drift. similar situation was happening to me last straw was when he shot by bosses brand new vette window i heard the co2 pop when he shot it so i just knocked on their door and talked to his mother sure enough he had just gotten a pellet gun for his birthday but his parents did pay to fix the car and i never saw that kid with a pellet gun after that.

I manage a glass shop if you want to drive all the way to College Station...

like stroker said, it could be that one spot in the bottom of the pic... however, tempered glass, especially since its warming up outside, can and will just explode without being hit - I see it 2-3 times a day. Most likely, there was a little nick or scratch somewhere in the glass and the heat building pressure inside the car pushed just enough to turn that little scratch into what you see above

its hard to tell with the window being tinted but where the glass falls is the indicator of what happened - if its been struck with something solid like a rock or BB, the glass falls down into the door and the interior of the car... if the glass is all over the street, the pressure from the inside of the car pushed it out

Found a company that will do it with new glass installed for 264$.

I see what you mean about the corner spot.

You may be correct about the heat playing a part in it, I never take the car out of the garage except on weekends. Use to have a black on black integra and in the summer I hated the black interior it was so damn hot. The camaro has same black interior.

I am pretty sure nothing was thrown at or hit so I guess it just may be the heat, pressure, mixed with hairline crack= disaster.

Any other suggestions of why it may have cracked are welcome, don't really want to pay 300 damn dollars again, and also to put my mind at ease!

Damn car only has 16,500 miles on it, **** happens huh!

Had this happen to me, but not glass, but my 38' trailer I had just built. Got home one day and found a couple of b-b dents in the side. I know the kid that just got a bb gun. I confronted him about it, he said his friend did it,I told him it was his responsibility of owning a gun. I took the gun from him and told him to get his mom to come get it back. I had it for a few years before I got rid of it. His mom never did come get it from me.

I disagree with heat being the issue, maybe if it was the winshield that all of sudden decided it wanted to crack. It looks like to me like a bb or a pellet hit where circled in that picture, tempered glass is strong but weak around the edges but a bb or pellet at high speeds will definatley break it. Take a closer look and you should be able to see if there is a sign of impact where all those lines of broken glass meet.

Wow he didn't even take any precautions to keep the old glass from rolling around the paint and not scratch it? I would have cried.

Believe me I was. I grabbed the vaccum out of the house and was going behind him vacumming all that **** up. **** I know, but it only has 16,500 miles and its my baby. Paint is immaculate as well as interior. Luckily, nothing got messed up. Have to wait till moday and she will be getting a bath in case of small glass pieces on the body.
