How can a beginner like me with let's say $200-$500 start buying/ selling if let's say I buy a stock for$4 but it'll cost $9 just for commission turn around sell it at $8 , but again pay $9 commission.. I would bet at a loss.. Unless I'm not getting something right.., any one care to chime in???

If you were buying or selling one share you would be at a loss but say 300 shares at $4 is $9 commission on the $1,200.

You dont have to put $2k to open an account . The two that I looked at :e trade and ameritrade. Etrade requires a $500 deposit within 60 days, or they will close your account. Ameritrade does not. They are both free accounts. The $2k I was talking about was for a promotion of no fees for 30 days.

Travelzoo has been on huge slide lately and should be ready to go north. (TZOO).
BIDU is a great buy and not the Redbox is going to start renting video games, profits should start heating up. Redbox is owned by Coinstar (CSTR).

To me...cat and cummins have very similar stock prices and have a very similar history. I would probably go with cummins because they are in a better situation and have the chance to grow much more.

I have an account with Tradeking from a few months ago, but haven't used them yet. Are they any good, or should I go to another trade site?
