Question Question about A/C

I need to know how long is everyone's A/C compressor is lasting?

I have had Slaters Auto Works install my last three and they never lasted more than a year. So I think I need a new idea, but for some reason my car chews up A/C Compressors like candy.

I have a/c questions too... but I will make my own thread so I don't hyjack this one. For your question... I had my last f-body 3 years bought in 07 and sold last year. I put a compressor in it in 07 and it was still blowing ice cold when I sold it. I bought the re-man from Advance Auto.

Also, even with out the A/C installed should I still be able to move the air flow from the floor to the vents? I wont change at all. Its just staying on the floor but then again it has not ran since August either.

The old compressor I was talking about went in a bird anyways. Thats what you need right?... As for my ? since OP said it is cool... I can't even get the damn blower to turn on. I am not sure if it is the relay or the motor itsself. Is there an easy way to test this? I just bought the car so no idea what all is wrong... yet!

Isn't the position selector vacuum??? I could be wrong. I know the heat/cool is a cable but I am pretty sure the defrost/floor/dash selector is vacuum

pull the blower and test it on constant power to see if it runs. If so then its your relay or wiring. I just changed mine too.

I hope its just the relay...(cheaper)... But if that is the only thing not working would the compressor still kick in so I know if that is bad too?

Run a jumper wire from the battery to the compressor. That'll let you know pretty quick if the compressor is working. Then you can mark it off the list.

No, it'll just engage the clutch on the compressor. That way you'll know for sure you're putting 12v to the compressor and if it kicks on, you're good. Hell that's the way we do it on million $ military vehicles

I've also seen a lot of new compressors go out because the system wasn't properly flushed after the old compressor crapped out.

Alright I will test the compressor. Hopefully it will just be the blower system. Then maybe just take it and have it vacuumed and charged. Getting hot in a black car with leather and no a/c.

If your blower won't come on, it's probably a relay. It could be the HVAC panel on the dash as well..I have one out in my shop if yours is bad. The blower motor could have a short in it..alot of variables to check. I know what you mean, my '02 Z28 was black with black leather..that biatch got HOT.
