Contractor, employee... whatever. The owners collectively own the NFL, not the players. Sort of like a Board of Directors owning a company. I also dont see players helping to foot the bill on new stadiums, unlike owners and taxpayers.....

You are also correct in that demanding a raise is not the same... I did not state that. I said demand 50% of their profits.

What makes the players entitled to more than 50% of the profits?

EDIT: Players are treated as employees of their respective teams....

WTF!!!
You wouldn't be seeing training camp footage at this point in time, camps weren't scheduled to open until later this month.
The lockout will be over prior to the end of the month, so camps will probably be shortened by a couple of weeks or so. The season will probably start on time or maybe a week late.

Unions just need to go away. There was a time and place for them in the past, but now they are just driven by greed and profit, not for the benefit of their members.

These NFL players are entertainers, we fans are paying to watch them to play a game. We buy their jerseys and hats, waste untold hours in front of a TV, and read about them. They earn millions doing something each and every one of us would quit our own jobs to go do - probably at our current salaries. The union likes to mention this nonsense about NFL player retirement stuff, which pisses me off. Here is a solution, SAVE a couple million that you just made last year, and quit living like a PIMP. Boom, you have your retirement fund. The rest of the country works 50+ years to earn that "extra" million+ to retire. These guys do it in 6 months. I don't have any sympathy for the poor millionaires that haven't learned to save for the future. Boo frickin hoo!

While unions are quite corrupt and greedy (much like the government), I don't trust in the kindness of shareholders, CEO's, or business owners to keep my best interest as an employee in their decisions.
As an example, WSJ and Fortune have both had articles about how companies are already planning on dropping their healthcare benefits, paying fines, and making their employees get on Obama Care. Do you think people are going to see any of those savings in their pay? Nope, and it is in effect a paycut.

Greed and corruption are on both sides.

You got it all right
Iv been a yankees fan all my life but the things I know no a days, I will never buy another jersey or hat to support any of this greed. I was just telling my gf the other day that I think ill should start supporting a team from Texas like the Rangers. I told her I would rather give my money to a state who deserves it.

Unions breed nothing but lazyness, period. 100 years ago they did something, now they just allow people to have an excuse to sit on their ***. Being in construction I get to see it all the time. I can immediately tell when Im on a union job, everyone is sitting around, the job is behind schedule and no one could care less.

Luckily here in Texas unions are on their way out for the most part. About the only thing left union down here is electrical, very little mechanical or plumbing. The only jobs the union companies get are federal and state jobs with few exceptions here in Austin.

Being a structural inspector I don't have to deal with the mep trades much but when I do for fire/safety stuff its always fun. Every once in a while I'll get ahold of someone who cares but for the most part its a battle. It usually ends pretty bad for them though since fire/safety is on the 3rd party verification list for the city of Austin so they have to listen to me whether they like it or not

It amazes me how many people support the owners on this thing. It is difficult to compare this to any other situation. The players have a right to set their value, just like any other contractor would. The owners are the issue here. They are making money hand over fist, but want another billion or so.

The players do pay for the stadiums. They pay for more of them then most of us do, because they are taxpayers also.

I am not a union fan at all, but I don't support what the owners are doing. they want more money from the players, not to lower prices or to make it more affordable for the average fan, but to put more money in their pockets. They get to operate above the laws that bind almost every other business in this country, and still want more. If they were to take that extra money and pay all of their employees more, that would be a different story, but they won't.

None of this really matters, though, as the deal is 99.5% done, and will be complete by the end of next week.

Its the owners company, players are not contractors... they are employees (as shown by the link provided in a post above). Just because they sign a contract does not automatically make them contractors.

Players can set their value to whatever they want, this does not mean that they are entitled to the owners profits.

Only if they reside in the City where the stadium is being built. Take Jerry Land... how may Cowboys players do you think live in The City of Arlington, therefore paid taxes from which the stadium was built? Either way, Im willing to bet that it pales in comparison to Jerry's contribution of 1/2 billion(+) dollars. They want equal amounts from profits... try shelling out the cash for Company payroll then.

#1- how do owners operate above the laws?
#2- which employees should get paid more? The football players making millions of dollars a year or the people providing concessions to fans? Its hard to pay people more when the majority of your payroll is taken up by the fellas standing on the sideline on Sundays.

The only way ticket prices go down is if PLAYERS pay goes down. I dont ever see that happening.

I know what you mean. Taking a hour or 2 out of my day to haul a step ladder up and down 10 floors with no elevator just to check every single fire damper in the chases is kind of a PITA
