Default quick A/C blower question

The last two time i use my AC, it starts nice and strong, but then there is a noise coming from the blower motor, and the air comes out at a much slower rate. i have it at full blast and it feels as if its in the first or second setting. does crap easily get into the blower motors, or might it just be giving out?

Pull the blower motor out and check for trash in the blower wheel or in the case, sometimes plastic bags etc get sucked up in there.

Does it blow on every speed? If so the resistor is good, when the resistor goes out they will only blow on high speed.

It is possible the blower motor itself is going bad but that would most likely blow the fuse due to excessive current draw.

yea it blows in every speed, slow but progressively as i change speeds. yeah the resistor is ok, hopefully its just mesquite leaves or the little seed pods that they drop

does the noise get louder as you higher in ac speed? if so yes the problem will be the leaves. i just had this same problem about 2 weeks ago. no more noise

evaporator core could be clogged but doubtful, you could switch it to heat and see if it blows harder, if so you have an airflow restriction in the case somewhere.

Just drop the blower motor and take a look inside. 3 or 4 screws and one electrical connector. It'll take you 10 minutes tops.

My wife's car does this occasionall. Esp on longer trips. I have pulled the blower motor out and checked for leaves, etc. I am wondering if it is some sort of vacuum leak or other problem. It sure is aggravating.

What kind of car? If it has a vacuum controlled mode door then the door could be sending some of the airflow out other vents that it shouldn't be. If it tends to have these issues more while under acceleration and not during decel or idle then you mostlikely have a vaccum resevoir leaking. If it is electronically controlled I would look at the a/c system, the evap core could be starting to freeze and cutting down airflow, this could be caused by a faulty low pressure switch, faulty thermostatic swithch, or low freon. Also it could be that the motor is giving out after being ran for a while, but this is pretty unlikely, electric motors usually work or don't, and if they start dragging due to too much load or bad bearings etc you will generally have electrical problems like popped fuses or burned connectors, when the load goes up so does the current draw from the motor. The circuit isn't built to handle more than the motor draws when it's healthy so you will see signs.

I see blow fuses and bad relays frequently when electric radiator/condenser cooling fans go out..

Its an 02 Z28. the blower is still going, but very little air is coming out anywhere. I have started bringing tools along. I pulled it apart on I45 once and disconnected the vaccum harness behind the glove box to see what was going on and couldn't get anywhere. Sometimes shutting it off and letting it sit for a few minutes makes a difference. Sometimes it needs to sit for an hour before it goes back to normal. It is so intermittent I can't just decided to spend some time working on it.

I still wonder if it could be something in the case blocking it, but I have torn into that twice to check and couldn't find a thing.

Seems more like your evaporator is freezing up

I would start by seeing if it does this when the a/c is not on.

Not that I am aware of and that probably wouldn't help for very long. I wouldn't think it would cost much for a new one.
