Default Houston Fires.

Anybody else mildly concerned here? I'm in South Texas right now working and I can't really get any information other then the fact that there's smoke all over downtown Houston. How are you guys holding up?

Nothing you can do about it, so why worry?

In Houston, we're OK. Although it smells like BBQ outside. Most of the fires are North and Northwest of here. The wind just changed direction so we're picking up the smoke. We need some rain soon or we are next. There was a field fire about 2 weeks ago that I could see from my desk at work that had me a little nervous though.

I saw the Pearland fires on the Fox News website live map. I was wondering about that specifically since my mom lives near that area.

Were they grass fires?

Two co-workers may lose their homes today. They were evacuated, and won't know if their homes still exist until they are allowed back. Sucky situation for sure.

We've had a few fires near my house recently too. 3 of them within a mile or less from me, in the last 3 months. Two of them were from asshats throwing cigarette butts out the window, lighting the grass roadside. Smokers that litter suck.

I have friends that have been evacuated for the last 3-4 days. Some of them only had 15 minutes to get their stuff and GET OUT! Crazy! I have seen 3 different fires on the West side of Houston since last weekend. I know a good number of these fire fighters that are doing everything they can to contain fires from here to Bastrop. It's sad how some people don't value our fire department's funding until their house is at risk or on fire. Its also sad how people wont stop throwing their damned cigarettes out the window while driving.

I too, am very concerned....

here is a map of all the fires going on currently in the U.S:

So Tony do you have your stable sleeping else wear so "if" something took off you could just jump in two vehicles and leave?

I am a Captain in Frelsburg VFD which is just north of Columbus, Tx. I spent 4 full days fighting a 2300 acre wildfire in Columbus. We have gone back out every single day since Labor Day to contain flare ups. I had to watch several of my good friend's and fellow firefighter's houses go up in flames. When the wind is blowing as hard as it was there is little we can do as firefighters on the ground. We lost 11 houses and well over 80 vehicles, trailers, etc. This **** is scary and until we get "hurricane amounts" of rainfall it wont be over.

My family has a house my great grandfather built in Columbus on the river. From what I have seen on the maps the fire is NW of town. Is that accurate?

I am just concerned because our property is at the corner of Forest and North on the river. I would hope the river insulates us if the fire moves that way, but anything can happen.

Thanks for your hard work. I know these fires are hell and really take a toll on you and your guys.

Like you said though, we desperately need a good size tropical storm like Allison to just dump all over texas for a good week

Yeah, wife and I live in Cypress as well, between 290 and 249 in the lakewood area. Place is full of pine trees and dry vegetation, starting to get concerned as well.

yah they were grass fires, we havent got any rain here by the refineries at all, my friend in League City has got a lot of rain but none for us, I guess its the pollution. these fires are about 13 miles away from Pearland. the fire dept was on it like flies on ****, they did an awesome job keeping it from spreading.
