We have a winner. "Top Speed" does not equal "Standing Mile".

Yep. I think some people in this thread have read too many Texas Mile threads over the last few years.

I'm pretty sure that new GT500 can and will go 200mph.

Yeah, Might not ever post another "car or performance" related post on LS1tech again due to all the ignorance.

Naw man. The new mustang and camaros are nice. I seen a 650 HP SS in Decatur from SLP. It looked like it could give any street car a good run sitting there. But the 80k sticker price pushed me away for a moment. If sanjel pays good i may get one.

Ok I used a fluid dynamics calculation based on a .36 Coefficient of drag using a torque curve peaking at 600 ft/lb and I came up with and absolute top speed of 206 MPH. Without having the exact HP/TQ curve I can't get much closer than that. Also if they changed the body style with changes in aerodynamics or added wing for downforce this could change the numbers. My guess is that they definitely would have to add some downforce seeing what top speeds this car is capable of. So my guess is the top speed would drop down closer to the 200MPH number. Again all guesses until they release better specifications.

I didn't spend a lot of time on the curve so it could be off a bit but gives you an idea.

Whoops....I forgot to add for drivetrain losses. Ok new calculation.
199MPH based on a maximum loss of 15%. Which these days modern cars with manual transmissions typically are in the realm of 8.5-12% losses. So therefore the answer is YES. The car should hit 200MPH no problem.

In all very few people have the opportunity to hit 200mph so that wouldn't be a selling point to me. Now price is definitely going to go up but I wonder what the price difference is going to be between the two.

pricing- http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showpo...90&postcount=1
specs- http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showpo...46&postcount=1

the ZL1 is gonna be the better bang for your buck car IMHO..and it looks better. Also the magenetic ride control is gonna be helping it out a lot.

Now at the drag strip its a matter of who can put the power down to the ground

How so? You don't even know the pricing on the 2013 GT500. Base price on the 2012 is $48,645.

Yes and the GT500 might just end up being priced a little cheaper. The mustang will be lighter, have 70hp more and will be available with navigation, SYNC, etc.

well I guess we'll find out when pricing is released..I would still take a ZL1 over it just because of the magnetic ride control suspension and all the technology going into it. But that's just me idk how other people feel.

has anyone seen this videos on the ZL1? if not watch all of them

Navigation. Sweet. So when your doing 200 mph you can get lost faster. Both the ZL1 and this mustang will be a nice match up from the factory.

The 99% of us wont ever have one or a ZL1 camaro. Collectors will scoop them up and also the dealers will *** rape consumers on the price.

Sorry, bud. If I like 2 cars equally and they are both priced the same, I'm taking the one that's lighter, more powerful and essentially has "free ****" thrown in like Navigation, SYNC, etc.

2011-2012 GT500s have been selling at sticker for quite some time now (before the 650hp GT500 news came out).
