Default decent welder

Looking to see what everyone would suggest.

Starting to restore a truck and looking to get a decent little welder. Prefer one with gas and 110v IF possible. 230v would be fine as well.

LOL as i tell you this, i also work for a fab shop, but i cant really bring home their units.

thickest material going to be welded is prolly 1/4-3/8in thick, dont see anything much thicker, and the thinnest is going to be whatever the body panels are.

Lincon 140, I got mine at lows and love it! I do a lot of sheet metal work and it work great on thin metal. Also has the power to do some pretty thick stuff

Everlast has some really good stuff. i was looking for a TIG and the model i found outperformed a 400$ MORE expensive miller in every field. Miller has the customer service, but unless your job depends on it, then is it *that* important?

since your talking steel and hobbyist. i'm guessing your doing all MIG.
here is their mig line. they also have some MIG/Plasma and MIG/TIG/Plasma combos.

Hobart 140 is a really great welder. Have had mine for about 3 years. welded everything from body panels to roll cages to adding a beaver tail to my trailer. If you want the best of both worlds get a Hobart 210. Dual voltage 110/240. The Handler® 210MVP offers seven output voltage settings (taps) and infinite wire feed speed control making the unit easy to adjust for different materials, thicknesses and wires. When plugged into 115V power, the 210MVP utilizes 4 voltage settings (taps) and has 140 amps of weld output. When plugged into 230V power, you will get all 7 taps and 210 amps of weld output. If I buy another one. This will be it.

if you're going to be welding 3/8" i'd suggest a 220v. i have a miller 175, which was replaced by the 180, & it's a great machine. crank it up for thicker material or turn it down to weld thin sheet metal. great all around machine.

Firstly, if you have an available 230v circuit, without a doubt dont get a 110v. Secondly, if you work for a fab. shop, why in the hell are you asking a bunch of guys on a car forum what you should get? Talk to the shop foreman or the lead men.

well lead man said the same thing, for what i wanted it for to go with a 140hd. LOL i ask yall because i wanted to know what most people use for their cars and such.

I actually got a brand new 180hd for the same price as the 140hd cause the manager lied to me LMAO

I went to buy the lincoln140hd because it was a 120v outlet. Well when I got the box it was beat to hell and obviously taped up several times. A MANAGER told me it was brand new and has everything with it, I was like, if its brand new why is the box beat to hell, he said because people want to look in it yadda yadda yadda, I said cool. I took it to the register and told the girl I wanted to look in it, sure enough it was missing alot, she asked me if I still wanted to buy it....AT FULL PRICE ! I was like uhhh not if it doesn't come with everything lol, I told her see, never trust anyones word except your own. Well the manager asked me if I wanted a diff model, a lower end, I said nah I wanted that particular one, he said, well what about this one ? (the higher end model) I said nah its 150 more then the one I wanted. I said if you give it to me for the price of the one YOU said was brand new ill take it. He said ok and I got basically $150 off

I am big into Miller mig machines. If you want something that is portable and can run on 110-240v I would look at this one. We have one that goes with us to sites occasionally and works very well for the $. http://www.millerwelds.com/products/...p?model=M00245
