I had one and didnt like it. Took it back twice for the same issue. It would get hot on the first panel i buffed and quit working. so i spent the money and bought a dewalt rotary and 3 years later it still performs flawless.

Are you just starting out or have you been using a buffer for awhile?

I came across a porter cable (model no. 7424xp) but there are no reviews. Not sure what speed, etc. to buy.

Need some help.

I believe the porter cable has adjustable speed. That is how mine is. You can't go wrong with the Porter Cable.

Don't waste your money on anything like that unless it's a Porter Cable.

If you're wanting to remove any type of defects or imperfections in your paint, the sears pieces won't do anything for you except waste money and time.

Do some research before purchasing one and be sure to square away your washing/drying techniques first. This is by far the most important factor in keeping your paint in great shape with out further inducing future swirls/marring after reconditioning the finish.

The PC 7424XP is what you need. It's variable speed and can handle most of what you will need. Some of the more stubborn imperfections take a bit of time with the PC, but that machine is very safe to use. You can check YouTube for a lot of videos. Adam's Polishes has an entire line of video's on YouTube. Like stated above you need to also perfect your washing technique. You can "ruin" an entire day or days of polishing, etc with a bad wash.

Excuse my highjack, but I received a Craftsman buffer/polisher in a white elephant gift exchange for Christmas, should I take it to Sears and spend the extra money on getting a Porter-Cable? TIA.

Yes. You will get no polishing/correction with that buffer. Those types of buffers only apply wax at best. A Porter Cable buffer kit is a couple hundred dollars and includes pads and some product, etc. I sold a lot of those kits on Ebay for $200 all day long. Well worth the money. Adam's Polishes is a sponsor here and their customer service is top notch. You will have your order in a few days.
