Ok, block casting 12561168 its an LS6 block, specific to 2004 Corvette. has 243 heads but no yellow springs? Motor has 25k miles, pulled in 2007. Been sitting ever since. I mentioned the springs and he is pulling the front cover to see if its got a cam. He says he wants $3000. Not sure what its worth. Any input? Seller says he bought it from running vehicle. 2004 Z06.

You can have a motor honed, re-ringed, re-bearinged, etc for way less then 3k. and have the assurance that its all new and legit...

i guess you're just wanting to spend money. lol

I think 3k is too high.

Well, if it were in a vehicle and I could verify the condition, I think 3k is reasonable for a legit ls6... I really cant justify buying a floor motor for that price... that scares the **** out of me.. my brother made that mistake. We put a motor in his tahoe that turned over fine by hand.... first crank sounded like dogs barking under the hood...

Unfortunately I have been there twice. Bought one 98 LS1 from a guy here on Tech that was out in San Antonio, dropped it in and it turned out he had sprayed the hell out of it and there was a new valve spring on cylinder 4 as well as a big crack in the cylinder. Motor never ran correctly so I had to part it out and the guy went ghost but I still have all his PM's etc in case he tries to show up around here again. (I doubt it) but it was a pullout with transmission so I assumed it was good.

I got another one on Craigslist from a guy, looked great in person but when I dropped it in It didn't work good at all so I pulled it out and sure enough the head gaskets were garbage, the cylinders were scuffed to hell and the bearings were gone. He paid for the parts but too much trouble.

Next time I buy an engine that came out of another car I am pulling the pan and possibly the heads before I will buy it and even after that I will tear it down completely before putting it into my car.

I would recommend you do the same if you buy one from somewhere, just assume it needs refreshing.

BTW that LS2 for $1800 is a steal and looks good. At least it's already apart so you can check it out and throw your stuff on it.

Run away from that deal and run fast.

You can buy a freshly built and forged short block (or have yours built) for very close to that price, hell if not for less. I think I would try to ****** up that LS2 for $1800.

I know the motor really good and was going to buy it but I just do not need to do another motor swap in my WS6. The motor ran very strong when it was pulled... The owner broke the rearend wand is going to go to a bigger motor is the only reason why it was pulled. I bought the top end from him.

Why not rebuild what you have now?

Add a cam/headers while your in there, pick up stock pair of 243 if in budget

They make an adapter for it, don't change the reluctor wheel, it's on the crank, buy the adapter.

Awsome. So what motor are you going with? Imo forged is well worth it or at least a forged crank.

The crank can sustain more power than any of the other parts in the rotating assembly, so that is the last thing you need to replace with a forged unit.

Dammit Anticop I am responding to both your threads with the same basic ****!! Couple beers and I forget which one im in lol.
