Default C6

I was looking at a 05 3LT with 103k miles price is right.$22k What are the problems with the 05 the rearend but the rearend sucks in an f-body too. I read something about the auto trans being not so great but don't remember. I dont care about MPG @ any speed. I know C5Z are about the same price but I want a C6. Mods are going to be bolt ons and not muh else pretty much a DD, but since I work overseas it won't be driven alot.

The 05s had a really cool feature. Auto Targa Deployment. The top has a history of coming loose and flying off at highway speed. The panel would come unbonded from the frame and set sail!!! GM was supposed to have repaired them by rebonding but Ive heard that didnt work long term. Check the top from the inside by pushing up slightly in the front and see if it gaps open or starts to lift.

I definitely would not buy an 05 C6. Not only is it the first year model but it had a host of issues that were eventually corrected by GM as the years went on (the doughboy steering wheel was one of them lol). I save up a little more for a 06 if possible. If your set on the 05, then like 1c62nv said, make sure you check all the little things to make sure your in the clear.

I could do an 06 or even 07 I just was wondering what the issues with the 05s were. Thanks though.

DO NOT buy an 05. Forget the rear end problems and other mechanical problems. The real problems are in the electronics. Dead batteries, false codes, being locked out, gauges going out, etc. My dad has one.

Dough boy steering wheel is pretty much a deal breaker. Watch out for early 06 they also had the dough boy and some of the same issues. Not to mention an e40 ecm. Later 06 and on used e38, much more friendly for your tuner.

i have a 05 and have not had any problems. i have little problems but they are because of age like the hood struts and stuff. my battery has never dies except when i have left the nitrous bottle heater on. they say the rear ends are weak but mine has never broke and i race mine every weekend and spray the **** out of it on hoosier drag radials. mine has about 55k miles on it. its been i good car so far. the slave cylinder went out which was a bitch to replace i went ahead and installed a ls7 clutch but the stock clutch still looked ok. cam only with a 150 on it and i'm about to do a stand alone fuel system and put another 75 or 100 shot on it.

Regardless of what you do it will always be a Corvette. The book of problems the may have and the mods they really need is not near as thick as a GD F-car. I know I own both. Y- Car FTW!!

Like stated before, 22k for an 05 with 103k miles is very high. You can get a 06-07 for the same price, maybe 2-3k more. GL
