Soon to be State Trooper
#22
Just had to comment on this thread.... Nobody has any clue what it takes to become a TXDPS Trooper. There training is absolute hell....They train you not to rely on backup like most PD's.. You have my upmost respect.. I too served my country in a time of need and would be right with you hadnt I have been a knucklehead prior enlistment.. Best of luck! What people are failing to realize is that you have opened a doorway of oppurtunity for yourself... ITs not about the money.... It never is in the heart of a volunteer.. Z28Gonzo failing is not an option.. Finish it!

There is a reason why people say "oh crap" when they see that cowboy hat step out of the crown vic. Congrats. It seems like a lot of people in this thread have said "oh crap" a lot.

I'm a police officer and seeing that Black & White car of a State Trooper even makes me pucker up. Do everything you can to get in the best shape of your life, the academy is no joke.

I've had nothing but good dealings with Troopers since moving here to the states. Had one directly in front of me when driving back from LA recently... he pulls to the side of the road to setup his speed-trap, I pass and a few minutes later he's right behind me, lights come on, pulls me over.
Had a taillight out. He mentions that it appears I take good care of the car, that I just need to deal with it ASAP and let's me go.
If that had happened where I use to live, in Arlington, it would have been an automatic ticket, no quarter given whatsoever.

Congrats man! I applied with them in 2009 and only had the 3 plus required for TDCJ, i did not get accepted past the oral board which went FANTASTIC, i impressed myself with how well i did, but they held me back for a few things, 2 of which should have not been a issue i figure, but it was a great learning experience, determined not to let that stop me, i would reapply, but NO. I assume some of my co workers messed it up for me and that September they n longer accept TDCJ officers after 3 years. It really is sad i was no longer offered that opportunity because of others actions, but it is ok.
Just graduated last Friday from the UHD police academy and i will be finding a commission soon, was a great experience and you will make some new friends that you will never lose touch with just as the military. My LE driving instructor is one of the ones that wrote the book on mobile video, former DPS, he is with the Attorney General now.
Have fun and keep us updated.
