I tune for several shops in outside of Victoria and I never lock the tunes. If a shop requested it I would of course.

I tune 6-8 vehicles a week plus run a demanding business. It makes me harder to schedule than most shops, but I find that most people are willing to wait.

Take the drive out and see Pat G. All the shops mentioned will give you a good tune but his customer service simply cant be beat.

Also, he's right about the locking thing. It's not a big deal that they lock it, but it is a big deal when they try and charge you $100 for an unlock simply because they dont want you to go to another shop. It happened to me.

The only reason I can see for people locking a tune is, not to hide their experience but rather, to hide their inability. Pat has fixed driveabilty issues with otherwise good tunes that no one else seems to have been able to.... And after all that's what we want out o anything other than a pure track car... Just sayin... The man is awesome. That being said, do research, call every shop and pick the one go gives you the most information and makes you feel the most comfortable. It's your car!

That pretty much sums it up. There is no reason to be locking tunes. The only thing I can think of is it makes the customer come back to you, and also it hides what little is most likely changed in the tune.
Saying its to keep people from coping your work is pretty lame. I can promise you if someone is out there stealing tunes and coping and pasting them into other cars it wont take to long for word to get out. Its called custom tuning for a reason, each vehicle and setup is different. There are no magic voodoo tricks for tuning ls1's out there.

I was told that the 400 was for dyno tune and for driveability tune. I never got a driveability tune from them. I don't know if I'm happy cuz I have nothing to compare it to, but I'm getting beat by a lot of other cars with a lot less power (atleast 50 less - same weight). I think pat G might be my next choice. I've heard nothing but good things from everyone that's been.

Why not just call Danny and tell him that. If it wasnt done it needs to be. We just redid a GTO that came in from some else and it came in making 569 rwhp and is now making 700 rwhp. I dont see a problem with a little communication you can be taken care of easily.
