Default Normal temp for 5.3?

My 5.3 is running at 210 with no thermostat. Is that too hot? Its in my swapped 96 T/A but I am using an LS1 radiator with a 3rd gen fan. Ive used this fan for the last two engines and never had a problem. I did remove the rad a couple of weeks ago so I could install my trans cooler. I dont remember at what temp it used to run right before removal od rad but for the last few months it never went above 180. Could it be that its just too freakin hot outside now that summer is here?

Exactly ^^^^

Not running a thermostat will make it run hot. Put a thermostat in it.

Cardo I have a hypertech 160 that's been sitting around for 3 years, never installed it. It's yours if you need it.

^^^ x3

The coolant moves through the radiator too fast to have the heat removed.

Are you sure it's runninig 210*? My 2011 5.3 reads 210 even when I log at 180. Once it reaches 210 the gauge never budges.

Those guys are right ^^^^^^ for them to "read" 210 is normal, and yes they are usually a hair lower in reality. Damn near every GM I have ever been in sits right on or really near 210. And the factory thermostat is 195.

But still, not having a thermostat is not a good thing.

Well, I'm going to install the 180 from svg and see how it goes. I'm also reading the temp off of the pass head on the autometer gauge. The computer gets it's signal from the driver head sensor but that doesn't go to the dash. Only the a m gauge works on the dash.

Yup, on vehicles with factory electric fans, the factory programing doesn't even kick on the low speed fan control until right around there. High speed doesn't come on until around 230.
