Im at a loss, the lady there told me the only thing I could do was "get the seller to state the date was wrong" pretty much hinting at me just falsely filling out a document stating I traded the car recently, But wouldn't they have to look up the cars vin i traded and see its been registered in someone elses name for a long time?

What should I do?

Changing the date will not matter if they submitted a Title Transfer Notification which is in the system permanently. I am going through something similar with my 1998 SS. I have just been getting temp plates until I get the money together.

Basically my situation is the guy bought the car from the previous owner and the owner filed a Title Transfer Notification. Then the guy sold it to me without ever putting it in his name and now there is 2 years of fees stacked up that the car wasn't titled/registered. I attempted to tell the agent when I bought it and the only thing I could do is the same as you, find the previous owner and ask them to come to the tax office and sign a paper saying the date was wrong.

Otherwise I will be forced to pay the $1000+ in fee's which it seems I will as I don't know the previous owner and they probably wouldn't be willing to do that.

crap I traded a few months ago, and just got this thing running.

BUT he didnt date the title, can I just date it and be good?

To the OP, Im in DFW. I bought a bike a few years back that had been sign by buyers and sellers all on the back. This bike exchanged hands maybe 8 time without being transfered and even accross state lines lol. So you can imagen the fees with that.

So it was cheaper to get a bonded title; or insurance on the title. The bike booked at almost 5k but because I had the title and it was signed to me then it made it cheaper to bond. I ended up paying 320ish(i think) plus whatever the taxes were. Took me a few hours to do, but I did it all on my day off.

Keep us updated, or do you want to sell it for cheap? haha

It doesn't matter what you date the title or receipt has, if there is a Title Transfer Notification that is the set date.

The person I traded with was not a female.

Back from the dead, I think i'll end up doing a bonded title though.

You need to find a title service with no moral scruples...
