Best new HD truck?
I am interested in who likes what as far as the new HD trucks. All seem rather comparable, I drove a '12 Ford F250 today and it was pretty comfortable. It almost keeps up with my GMC and the Ford is stock. I really like the Ram 3500 MegaCab Dually but want everyone's opinions. My top choice is a new GMC but want to wait till the new body style and I like the end of year sales that are starting now.

I'd drive all 3 on the same day and make your decision. I believe the Duramax will be the quickest of the 3 right off the lot. I like the Dodge's interior and proven engine. Exterior styling? It's a toss up between the Dodge and Ford in my book.
I ran 100-175 tunes on my 6spd Dodge Auto for 3 years. No problems. In stock form, any of those truck's transmissions will be just fine. After 150-200hp and a **** ton of torque added, all 3 will let go eventually.
Go with what you like.

GM owns the street.
Ford owns the dirt.
If you need and WILL USE, 4WD, go Ford.
I, allong with most who have any diesel experience, am praying for the day we can get a Cummins engine in a Ford chassis.

curious to hear about all the problems with the 6.7 psd....
are you a mechanic that works on ford diesels? do you work for ford?
who is your source... I'm about to sell my 2008 f250 6.4psd which has had zero issues with the motor, stock or tuned which will be upgrading for a 2012/13 f250.
I only had a transmission issue when running my big tune ruining the clutch packs in my stock transmission... but I imagine that happening when the truck was making 550rwhp and 1141ftlbs of tq.....

Yeah. Me too. We have hundreds buzzing around out her in the oilfiled and they run 24/7. You may be thinking of the old 6.0. Which STILL made a pretty good engine after they were reassembled with the right parts.

If and when I bite the bullet, I will probably trade in both of my trucks together and get the payment down.

At any rate, I will agree 100% with Ross.
Take the day and go test drive hopefully the model of each three you would potentially get and do your thing.
You won't be making a wrong choice as the 3/4-1ton market is very close these days between the big 3. Get into something YOU enjoy and not something on the word of some people on the internet.
They all suck as and aren't as efficient as the old school diesels to do the DPF systems/clean air act, so honestly you really can't make a "wrong" choice.

The dirt contractor I work with bought 12 6.7s and all of them have been in the shop constantly. One had less than a 1000 miles on it before it needed a new computer. Another one had an issue with the cam. The vast majority of them have been in for sensor or turbo problems. All of theirs were first run 2011s so maybe theyve gotten better.
If I were buying another diesel I think Id look real hard at the Dodge crew cabs. More space than GM CC trucks, straight axle, good engine, look great, the trans is the only downside but theyre not that much worse than an Allison.

We have several of the 6.7l Fords in F550's. NONE of them have made it past 45k miles without dropping a valve. I have a 12 F550, have 16k miles and I love the truck. BUT, the other 12' we bought has already had the DPF replaced (under warranty) and my DPF is going out. The oldest out of the bunch has about 75k miles, has had a long block put in it, 3 turbos and other small stuff. But, those are 75k hard miles, the trucks run ALL day long and have a hard life. I personally have owned a 1 ton Duramax, and have driven one and been around them at work in 4500's. I beat the **** out of my Duramax with a PPE HOT +2 tuner on a 225 tune, and it is still going at 175k miles. And those are hard miles, so personally I'd buy a Duramax.
