In the end it's still an old corvette, you try to show it off and people are surprised like oh that's the old corvette
actually it's an LSX site, and as far as wanting a Vette, I've always wanted one since the C5 was introduced, and I've had my F-Body run...I'm at the point in time where I just want a fun car to drive, I could care less if other people think it's in "old Corvette" or not, not out to impress or satisfy anyone but myself.

Get a Vette, bro. You will never look back. You wont fully understand until you see it in YOUR garage and see the heads spinning(meanwhile adjusting your HUD, being able to REACH all sparkplugs, and taking corners@1.0G's). Everyone that has commented(non enthusiests) have thought my Z was a "new Corvette". General public sees no difference. Trust me.

My 02 has been awesome when it comes to ebcn.bcm.grounds etc. You have to know what to look for when buying a used c5 and also if you have someone at dealer who can give you service history is a big plus.

Test drive a C6, you wont even bother with the C5 afterwards. C6 hands down for a daily driver. It's on a whole new level. But like you said, stay away from the 05's. It's worth it to save till you can get an 06 or 07. You wont be disappointed.

If you really want a C5, the guys in this thread have provided pretty much all the big issues you can expect. Be a good idea to check out the links as well.

D*mn Josh, you need a nice spiral gray one for your collection . Mine's an '03 and always people can't believe it's that old. Yes there's a few issues as everyone has said, but the bottom line is it's a great car and a blast to drive. People stop and stare at a Vette, I don't even look at a T/A or SS. L8R ZFLASH

C5 or C6 is def a win over f-body's in my opinion. It is and always will be a vette, if properly maintained and kept up it'll age like a fine wine. I'd personally go back yo a Gto before f body (and I had my share lol). As a dd I'm picking up a C5 sometime in the next 3 weeks myself.

i've had a trans am (sold) and a camaro (turning into race car) and the vette as the daily. the vette is SOOOOO much nicer. hell even the ride is more comfortable than the f-bods. oh another common problem is the shifter, you have to do the shifter alignment mod. but that's once in a blue moon. what that is is the shifter gets off of the track a hair or two and when you try to shift into first or reverse it's almost a bitch to push in. (i say this becuase i'm currently having that issue right now lol) but yeah i LOVE my vette. people still are amazed at how they look for being such an old car. my next vette will surely be a c6 z06, but that will have to wait for another few years.

My 02 Z06 doesnt leak nor have any electrical issues OTHER then my passenger side window relay sticks from time to time.... I have to pop the door panel off and tap the door frame with a hammer and the window works again.... This mainly happens if the car sits for a while.

My only complaint is the dash lights are pretty dim, even with them adjusted to full bright. My HVAC lights are sufficient but the dash lights suck.

27k miles on mine and other then those little quirks, it has been fine.... Now the drive train is another story....I have broke every thing in the drive train atleast once. But it has been over 600rwhp for the last 5 years.

I have only put 2500 miles on it in the last year due to breaking drivetrain stuff and now the last 6 months has been a motor R&R...

Hopefully I don't have any gremlins when I restart it after all this time.

OH and last thing, the Z06 seats suck.... the buns of the seat wear out in no time and the seat frame is like an ole rocking chair. There is fixes for this stuff though.

A C5Z is the best bang for the buck car out there..... Anything you can buy for under $20k, runs low 12s stock and 1g on a skid pad is a great bargain...Not to mention they get 25+mpg on the highway...

I'd love to have another stock one for a daily driver...

+1 with Alan.

The one complaint that I had with my c5z when it got older are basic electrical issues. I had more than most, but still a great car.

Like him, I broke stuff every time out to the track in my c5z. I spent about a grand in 6 months just getting towed home from the track. My base 2008, I never broke a single thing in it(except the C6 6-speed 1/4 record). Half shafts, rear, tranny, etc all took a beating and worked great.

The good thing about vettes is that alot of older guys bought them and put them in a garage only to drive one day a month with there vette club, you might pay a lil more but i wouldnt mind paying extra for a 1to 2 owner car with real low mileage that just got waxed with a diaper once a month lol,imo go c5z, will hold its value alot better and its way more car, cant go wrong with a vette though, i plan to pick one up in the next 2 years if i can stop putting money into my ss

The only issue I have ACTUALLY EXPERIENCED with my 03Z, is the HVAC lights going out. No electrical. No rocking seat. None of all the others Ive always heard about.
